Tactical Radio Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Colorado Springs, CO or Fort Wayne, IN

Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract



Are you passionate about developing embedded software that supports mission-critical defense systems?

As a Tactical Radio Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll work in a collaborative environment designing and building resilient software solutions that enable secure communications in challenging, contested environments.

This is an opportunity to contribute your technical expertise to projects with national security impact.



Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software applications using C/C++

  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software and hardware components

  • Debug, test, and optimize embedded systems for performance and reliability

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices in software development

  • Document software designs, code, and testing procedures

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and established processes



Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

  • 2+ years of relevant experience (or Master’s degree)

  • Proficiency in C and/or C++ programming

  • U.S. citizenship (required)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance



Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with low-level driver development

  • Familiarity with unit test frameworks

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as UART, SPI, and I2C

  • Experience with Agile development practices



Additional Skills (a plus but not required)


  • Background in digital signal processing (DSP)

  • Knowledge of Rust, Python, or MATLAB

  • Advanced Linux experience (drivers, networking, system services)

  • Multi-threaded or multi-core programming

  • Network protocols and socket programming

  • Cryptographic techniques and secure boot

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing



Workplace Details


  • Position may be on-site in Colorado Springs, CO or Fort Wayne, IN

  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to government contract requirements
