Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The UConn Stamford Campus seeks candidates for the position of Program Coordinator of Academic Support.

Under the direction of the Director of Academic Affairs at the Stamford Campus, the Program Coordinator of Academic Support will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students from across the university to support and sustain the Center for Academic Success and Engagement.

This position includes coordinating services for undergraduate students seeking to improve their academic performance, providing direct and group services to students regarding academic improvement, coordinating and implementing programs to promote retention, overseeing the tutoring center on the Stamford campus, supervising undergraduate staff and student facilitators, and overseeing other various program components.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develops and executes day-to-day programmatic responsibility for The Center for Student Success and Engagement (CASE).

  • Develops new programs for the Stamford campus, including UConn Connects – an academic intervention program for first- and second-year students on academic probation.

  • Supervises student staff at the CASE center.

  • Helps students design process systems, i.e., specific strategies, techniques, self-regulation, and metacognitions that will allow them to achieve consistent, excellent academic performance.

  • Coordinates the Tutoring Center.

  • Gathers relevant data, compiles statistical reports, and maintains appropriate computerized files and records.

  • Develops specialized programs such as Learning Assistants for gateway courses through the Center for Academic Success and Engagement.

    Integrates with other academic support programs on campus.

  • Monitors student progress and works closely with faculty and other University offices to identify and resolve problems.

  • Provides advice on issues negatively impacting academic performance or refers as appropriate and necessary.

  • Teaches First Year Experience (FYE) course(s) and supports other FYE instructors by providing class presentations on success strategies.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining constructive, professional working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and all levels of university administrators.

    Serves as a liaison between the program and other University offices, external organizations, and the public.

  • Works closely with other offices and programs to foster academic success and retention.

  • Writes and/or edits informational and publicity materials.

  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Three to four years of related professional experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing/administering academic support services and activities that support student growth, retention, persistence, and graduation.

  • Experience working with diverse constituencies.

  • Demonstrated communication skills, interpersonal skills, counseling skills, and ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

  • Proven knowledge of college student populations.

  • Experience utilizing databases and Microsoft products, including Excel.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s degree in education or a related field and one to two years of relevant experience.


  • Demonstrated commitment to furthering inclusive best practices through previous work or volunteer experiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems that interfere with students’ academic progress and work effectively to resolve them.

  • Demonstrated data analysis skills.

  • Experience with website and social media promotion activities.

  • Experience with proven academic intervention methodologies (i.e., Supplemental Instruction or peer tutoring).

  • Supervisory experience.
