Job Description:

The Office of Academic Support (OAS) for Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) at the University of Florida is seeking a Math Instructor to teach Basic College Algebra (MAC5) during the Spring 6 semester.

This is a part-time, term-limited position with potential for renewal based on departmental needs and available funding.

Position Overview The course is reserved for UF PROMISE Scholars, a specialized cohort of students participating in academic enrichment and student success programming through OAS.

Fostering an ethical and professional learning environment for all class participants.

In coordination with the UF Department of Mathematics, the instructor will deliver live lectures in Basic College Algebra (MAC 5) over the -week spring term, beginning January 6.

Course topics includes real and complex numbers, solving equations, graphing functions, and exploring exponential and logarithmic functions.

Instruction will follow the established curriculum used in other non-PROMISE sections of MAC 5.

Accordingly, the instructor will collaborate with the MAC 5 course coordinator within the UF Math Department.

All instructors are expected to adhere to departmental policies regarding class meetings, office hours, assignments, and grading.

Beyond subject knowledge, instructors are entrusted with fostering an ethical and professional learning environment that supports student success.

This mastery-based course requires students to attend a math lab scheduled one hour per week for supplemental instruction and individualized support.

Two sections are currently scheduled with labs.

Ideally, the instructor will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays (9 a.m.–: p.m.) and Fridays (9 a.m.–: a.m.) throughout the semester.

Responsibilities • Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction in Basic College Algebra (MAC5).
• Facilitate supplemental instruction and individualized student support through the math lab.
• Participate in training for course management software, as required.
• Incorporate best practices in pedagogy and curriculum development.
• Create an inclusive classroom environment that fosters engagement and learning.

Expected Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $1, to $2, per credit hour.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in mathematics, engineering, education, or a related field (preferred).

Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience may be considered.

Preferred: • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and instructional skills.
• Demonstrated teaching experience (classroom instruction, tutoring, or supplemental instruction).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with educational technologies and course management systems.
• Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and supporting diverse learners.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
