American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, Level II
OPEN ROSTER
6 to 7 hours per day, 9 months per year
We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS).

The most qualified and competitive applicant(s) that possess directly related experience and expertise, training, and education may be invited to participate in the interview/selection process.
As part of the selection process, the District conducts confidential reference checks to include former and present employers and also requires a criminal background investigation.
Unfortunately, due to the number of applications received, not all applicants will receive an interview.
Résumés should include education, relevant experience (including current position), and skills which highlight the qualifications of the position to which a person is applying.
All district employees are encouraged to review their personnel file periodically to ensure that their file includes current and relevant documentation that supports their education, experience, training, etc., as it relates to qualifications described on job postings.
Qualifications:
+ Certified by the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), both written and performance in ASL OR
+ Passed the National Interpreting Certification
+ Graduate from an Interpreter Training Program preferred
+ Possess a high school degree or comparable equivalent
+ Thirty (30) semester credits or forty-five (45) quarter credits from a post-secondary institution at an accredited university, college, community college or business school
+ Demonstrated fluency in American Sigh Language (ASL), both voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice.
+ Must demonstrate skills in interview
+ Knowledge of Code of Ethics specific to the role of interpreter
Other Requirements:
+ Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds
+ Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
Essential Functions:
+ Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
+ Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
+ Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our students
+ Ability to move around school facilities with students.
+ May be reassigned with little or no notice due to nature of work and student schedules
+ Assist hearing impaired students in mainstream classrooms.
Includes using ASL to interpret the lesson as taught by the classroom teacher, helping the student ask questions of the teacher.
+ Works with multiple students or with small groups of students.
+ Assist the teacher with communicating the lesson plan, working with tutorial groups and helping with supervision.
+ Works with individuals or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by classroom teachers as a tutor.
+ Assist hearing impaired students in the interaction and communication with hearing students and staff.
+ Interpret for hearing impaired students participating in regular classes, extra curricular events and for adult deaf in conferences
+ Ability to voice to sign and sign to voice or cue to voice and voice to cue
+ Must be able to drive between schools to address student need when colleague absences are reported
+ Must be flexible to reassignment if deaf student is absent for a day or longer
+ Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements .
It is understood that the district has the right to transfer and assign employees to best fit the needs of the district.
Benefits/Compensation:
Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range.
However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts, may receive experience credit towards salary placement.

Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits.
