Minimum Qualifications
The Department of Accounting at Appalachian State University invites applications for one tenure-track nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor beginning August 2026.
The requirements for this position include the earned Ph.D. in Accounting or equivalent from an AACSB-accredited institution and demonstrated potential for quality teaching and research. Candidates who are ABD may be considered for this position.
Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31, 2026.
If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor.
The candidate’s salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department.
However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
Candidates with Juris Doctor (JD) or Masters of Laws (LLM) and who do not have a Ph.D. in Accounting from an AACSB accredited institution will not meet the requirements for this position and should not apply.

The Department of Accounting has an enrollment of over 400 undergraduate majors and 25 students seeking the M.S. degree.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional duties will include a normal teaching load of nine credit hours per semester, curriculum development, participation in the program’s assurance of learning efforts, and may include on-line instruction.In addition to instructional duties, faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities.
