HIRING RANGE: $64,853 - $72,959 annually

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Athletic Director oversees all athletic programs in partnership with the Director of Athletics at Joliet Junior College.

Duties include: providing day-to-day leadership and operational support for the Director of Athletics and the Athletic Department.

Serves as the Head Coach for the softball program, and as such instructs and works with athletes to prepare them for competition.

Exemplifies the highest moral character as a role model for young athletes.

Recognizes the individual worth and reinforces the self-image of each team member by encouraging and assisting them to set personal goals to achieve their highest academic potential.

Position requires expert knowledge on the rules, strategies, and techniques in a sport, as well as knowledge of an athletic department and overseeing coaches, staff and student athletes.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

1.

Provides day-to-day leadership and operational support to the Director of Athletics and the Athletic Department.


2.

Oversees all transportation needs, including rentals and institutional vehicles for athletic teams, in collaboration with the Athletic Operations Assistant.


3.

Manages vehicle processing, fuel, tolls, and other travel-related expenses in Workday (or system of record).
4.

While partnering with the Director of Athletics, coordinates onboarding for all head and assistant coaches and provides supervision along with

Creates and oversees National Letters of Intent and works in collaboration with Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance/Eligibility.
6.

Responsible for attending or assisting the Director of Athletics at home and away athletic events
7.

Support and assist the Athletic Director in all fundraising events and activities conducted by Athletic Department.
8.

Responsible for set up and supervision of indoor athletic events; including supervision of event staff and officials.


9.

Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities as related to coaching area and as assigned/approved by the director.

Participate in special activities such as departmental, institutional retreats, professional development or other activities.


10.

Perform related duties as assigned.
HEAD COACH ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.

Coordinate and manage team schedules, contests, officials, practices, travel arrangements, and facility usage.
2.

Maintain the playing field and related facilities, including grass, tarps, sheds, dugouts, and supplies; monitor weather conditions daily to ensure the field is properly prepared for competition.
3.

Coach and supervise student-athletes during all practices, contests, and travel; organize and conduct practice sessions.
4.

Select, order, and inventory equipment within budgetary guidelines, and ensure the return of all equipment at the conclusion of the season.
5.

Provide leadership and support for team fundraising efforts by attending meetings, participating in activities, and contributing to membership drives.
6.

Maintain required records and information in accordance with annual reporting mandates.
7.

Foster positive communication and collaboration with athletic department staff, JJC faculty, administration, and external stakeholders; promote student-athlete engagement that supports both academic and athletic success.
8.

Serve as a steward of JJC, upholding and enforcing the JJC and NJCAA Student-Athlete Code of Conduct; collaborate with the Athletic Director and appropriate leadership to address and resolve incidents.
9.

Monitor and report student-athlete eligibility and academic progress in accordance with institutional and NJCAA requirements.
10.

Attend and participate in professional development activities relevant to the sport and/or coaching role.
11.

Ensure full compliance with all NJCAA rules and regulations.
12.

Support the academic mission and philosophies of JJC, the Athletic Department, and the goals of the Strategic Plan.
13.

Adhere to departmental protocols, including but not limited to: confirming contest results with the Sports Information Management Specialist for release, completing and submitting injury reports to appropriate stakeholders, and monitoring team budgets in alignment with college policies.
14.

Host and/or attend all mandatory JJC coaches’ meetings and required NJCAA meetings.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a focus on education, sports management or a related field.
2.

Two (2) years of H.S. and higher education successful coaching experience.
3.

Valid Driver’s License.
4.

Management experience directing and supervising the work of others.


5.

Marketing experience in promotion of Athletic programs.
6.

Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students and staff and work cooperatively with a diverse population.
7.

Excellent organizational, administrative, financial management, oral and written communication, and effective leadership skills.
8.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.


9.

Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.

Higher Education experience; preferably college experience.


2.

Successful coaching experience at the collegiate or comparable level.


3.

Computer experience and technology skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
4.

English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
5.

Demonstrated multicultural competence.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
1.

Normal office physical demands.
2.

Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.
3.

Ability to travel in state and nationally.
4.

The employee is often required to stand, walk, run, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

Vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and/or drag approximately 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1.

Duties are performed indoors and outdoors daily, as weather conditions permit, in the athletics environment.

Noise level can be moderate to loud.
