    In 2023, the State of Ohio established and funded the at Ohio State (the Chase Center or “Center”).

    The Chase Center is a multidisciplinary university center that conducts teaching, research, and public programming concerning the core texts and great debates of Western civilization; the principles, ideals, and institutions of the American and Ohio political order; and the foundations of responsible leadership and informed citizenship.

    It is an independent academic unit of the University.

    The Center is a leader of the growing cadre of similar schools of civic thought in Ohio and throughout the country.

    During its first year of operation, the Chase Center laid a strong foundation for long-term success securing its mission to “conduct teaching and research in the historical ideas, traditions, and texts that have shaped the American constitutional order and society,” .

    Position Overview

    The Chase Center is conducting a nationwide search for an Assistant Director of Student Success and K-12 Student Outreach.

    The successful candidates will be the primary person responsible for overseeing and effectively conducting the Center’s relationships with its Ohio State students and with K-12 schools and their students.

    The Assistant Director will oversee, manage, and perform undergraduate student success and K-12 student outreach.

    The Assistant Director provides a range of strategic and administrative enrollment processes and support programs and services that ensure effective intake of students, and provides the means for success during the academic experience and after graduation.

    The position includes development, delivery, measurement, evaluation, and continuous improvement to optimize effectiveness with relevant audiences.

    The position includes processes or programs serving domestic or international populations, honors and scholars, cross-disciplinary initiatives, etc.

    It also includes development, delivery, measurement, evaluation, and continuous improvement to optimize effectiveness with relevant audiences.

    This position utilizes knowledge and experience across multiple work areas; participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals; uses judgement, evaluation and interpretation to help others select the right course of action; translates goals into operational activities and guides their execution; develops and manages initiatives to deliver results; and interacts with peers, individual contributors and stakeholders to discuss and resolve operational matters.

    First, the Assistant Director will oversee and implement strategic and administrative enrollment processes and support programs and services that ensure effective intake of students, provide the means for success during the academic experience and after graduation.

    The Assistant Director works directly with students to support their academic success.

    He or she assists with development and implementation of the Center Orientation Program; assists with all facets of administration, including data collection and sharing results with stakeholders; connects students with resources such as tutoring, counseling, academic advising, and community resources; and maintains a working knowledge of functional areas across the University including academic advising, career services, financial aid, and independently advise students on success strategies utilizing that broad knowledge base.

    The Assistant Director works directly with students to support their academic success.

    He or she assists with development and implementation of the Center Orientation Program; assists with all facets of administration, including data collection and sharing results with stakeholders; connects students with resources such as tutoring, counseling, academic advising, and community resources; and maintains a working knowledge of functional areas across the University including academic advising, career services, financial aid, and independently advise students on success strategies utilizing that broad knowledge base.

    Supervises the scholarship and aid function for the Center, including the process related to endowed scholarships and other financial aid.

    Establishes alignment with the strategic enrollment plan.

    Ensures compliance with gift agreements.

    Manages endowed account balances and develops reporting on distribution outcomes.

    Works with University advancement to acknowledge donors.

    Manages the implementation of scholarship and honors programs for the Center.

    Supervises the delivery of the honors experience, including events, student engagement, and communication.

    Tracks student progress and ensures appropriate designations for honors students.

    Second, the Assistant Director is responsible for developing and implementing plans for strategic engagement, collaborative relationship, and meaningful partnerships with Ohio (and other) K-12 schools, and overseeing engagements to completion.

    The Assistant Director develops a student recruitment plan and implements it, including visiting schools, their families and students.

    The Assistant Director is responsible for student recruiting programs, pre-application and pre-admission, and related processes at the Center.

    The Assistant Director collaborates with central admissions and other offices; interacts with students, families and external organizations to exchange information and resolve issues; implements and administers plans, programs and events for general and targeted student recruitment in support of organizational goals; and ensures compliance with applicable regulations and policies.

    The Assistant Director leads efforts to support transfer students in collaboration with the University; supervises annual recruitment activities, including prospective student recruitment, engagement with students and their families, college events (e.g. “Open House”), and coordination with the University events calendar; collaborates with college communications staff to market opportunities for engagement, creating recruitment literature, publicizing events, and ensuring all prospective students and their families receive appropriate publications; leads enrollment data analysis efforts and works to identify solutions to address enrollment trends; measures and evaluates the success of recruitment programs, communications, and special projects; and provides the Center’s leadership with statistical, technical, and other data for admissions policy and procedure decisions.

    The Assistant Director fosters relationships in the wider community at special events and on committees in areas aligning with the Center’s mission; planning and hosting students, families, and leaders to the Center; and consulting and coordination with faculty, staff, and senior leadership on the creation of new partnerships.

    The Assistant Director establishes partnerships with educators, administrators, and families, and serves as liaison to the Center’s Leadership team.

    Additionally, the Assistant Director collaborates with partners across the University.

    The Assistant Director at all times handles all interactions with enthusiasm, civility, respect and professionalism to promote and create a welcoming atmosphere for all faculty, students, and families, as well as, maintains confidentiality in all matters of business responsibility and student involvement.

  • B.A. in a field related to the Center’s mission.

  • 6 years of relevant experience required.

  • Demonstrable written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and adapt to change.
  • This position will require in-state travel, evenings, and weekends.
  • Hold, or be on track to complete before starting the position, Ph.D., J.D., or other terminal degree in a field related to the Center’s mission.
  • Strategic or long-range planning experiencing.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with university, community leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success in a progressively responsible management capacity.
