    Position Overview

    The Department of Physics at the Ohio State University announces an opening for a tenure-track faculty hire in experimental physics, with focus on novel photonic phenomena, materials, and devices.

    The appointment is effective in Autumn 2026 at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

    We envision a candidate with strong potential for excellence in all aspects of scholarship and who will collaborate with the broad research community across campus and be an active member of major research centers and institutes at the Ohio State University, such as the Center for Emergent Materials (CEM, an NSF MRSEC), the National eXtreme Ultrafast Science Facility (NeXUS, an NSF Mid-Scale Research Facility), the Institute for Optical Science, the Center for the Exploration of Novel Complex Materials (ENCOMM), the Center for Quantum Information Science and Engineering (CQISE), and the Institute for Materials and Manufacturing Research (IMR).

    Performance Objectives

    Applicants should demonstrate the potential to be a recognized leader in the field of photonics, who will develop a productive, well-funded, and internationally prominent research program.

    Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • foster cross-disciplinary research with sustained impact;

  • develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program;

  • have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring; and

  • contribute to the teaching (graduate and undergraduate) and service missions of the University.

  • Education and Experience Requirements

    : Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related field.

    Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a welcoming intellectual community, in line with OSU’s (see below).
