The Department of Administration of Justice at University of Hawai?i at Hilo invites
applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Administration of Justice.
The Department of Administration of Justice offers a BA in Administration of Justice (AJ)
and a Criminal Justice (CJ) certificate.
Students can complete the AJ major and CJ
certificate requirements completely online.
The Department also offers in-person sections
for about two-thirds of its courses each semester.
This is an in-residence position.
The
successful candidate will be able to teach a broad range of criminal justice courses
throughout our curriculum as well as develop new courses in their area of specialization.
While the area of specialization is open, we are particularly interested in candidates with
expertise in the area of law enforcement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses, including Intro to Administration of Justice, Crime and Society, Criminal Justice, Criminal Law and Procedure, Policing and Punishment, Research Methodology, and other upper division AJ courses as needed.Serve on university committees.Engage in scholarly activities.Provide academic advising to students.Engage in periodic assessment activities.Participate in department, university, and community service.Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Criminology or Criminal Justice or closely related social science discipline from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.Demonstrated expertise in the field of criminal justice.Strong evidence of research productivity in the field of criminal justice, or clear potential for developing a strong program of research in the field of criminal justice.Demonstrated excellence in university-level face-to-face and online instruction.Desirable Qualifications
Documented excellence in teaching courses listed under Duties.Documented excellence in online instruction in various formats, including synchronous, asynchronous, and Hybrid-Flexible models.Experience teaching in a multi-cultural setting.Applied experience in law enforcement.Research focus in the area of law enforcement.
