Summary
The College of Computing at Michigan Technological University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the area of cybersecurity.
Primary consideration will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level, though candidates with appropriate experience and accomplishments may be considered for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor.
We encourage applicants with expertise in security, privacy, machine learning for security, cloud security, cryptography, data integrity, information governance, risk management, penetration testing, auditing, digital forensics, cyber-physical systems security, and related areas.
Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to conduct independent research and a commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
The anticipated start date is August 2026.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Develop a vigorous externally funded research program in areas of interest while fostering internal and external collaborations.
Engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship while maintaining a high level of student engagement.
Participate in service activities at the department, college, and university level, as well as in professional organizations and societies.
Integrate safety practices into daily activities and apply continuous improvement strategies to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, cybersecurity, information systems, or a closely related discipline at the time of employment.
Required Experience
Successful applicants must have a record of scholarship in cybersecurity.
Applicants for senior positions must have an established record of teaching, research and service that aligns with the expectations of the rank.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Teaching experience at the university level.
Experience with development of externally funded grant proposals.
Demonstrated activity within professional organizations related to the applicant’s research area(s).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Effective written and oral communication and presentation skills.
Ability to teach broadly across cybersecurity curricula.
Ability to teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Ability to independently lead a successful research program.
Ability to advise graduate and undergraduate students in research.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Demonstrated success in working with people with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
Demonstrated ability to articulate a plan for conducting research and teaching that reflects the unique strengths and opportunities at Michigan Tech.
Demonstrated ability to design and deliver university-level courses in both in-person and online formats.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a research team, including graduate students, undergraduate students, research staff, and other faculty.
Demonstrated familiarity with funding opportunities for the candidate’s research program.

The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting.
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
