Job description


The English Department at Bridgewater State University is interested in identifying a colleague to join our vibrant and newly expanded Writing and Writing Studies concentration within the English major as a tenure track Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2026.

The selected candidate will teach courses primarily in Writing and Writing Studies, including in our award-winning first-year writing program; advanced composition and rhetoric; and courses of special interest that contribute to the development of the concentration and the major.

As well, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to teach graduate courses in their area of specialization in the Master of Arts in English and the Master of Arts in Teaching English.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work with colleagues in the Academic Achievement Center to provide multilingual services for students and tutors.

Additional duties include advising students; engaging in curriculum and instructional development; and providing appropriate service to the university, the public, and the profession.

The standard course load at BSU is 4/4, with opportunities for release from course load to provide multilingual services in the Academic Achievement Center.

The selected candidate will join a thriving campus that includes a highly utilized Writing Studio, Multilingual Services, a Writing across the Curriculum program, and an award-winning Undergraduate Research program.
PhD in Rhetoric and Composition in hand by August 31, 2026.

Teaching experience in first-year writing and one or more of the requested areas of primary and secondary expertise (Multilingual Writing, Linguistics, and/or Sociolinguistics, Composition Theory, Writing Pedagogies, Technical & Professional Writing, Writing in the Sciences, or Cultural Rhetorics).



Applicants with research and teaching interests in Multilingual Writing, Linguistics, and/or Sociolinguistics are preferred.

Secondary areas of interest include Composition Theory, Writing Pedagogies, Technical and Professional Writing, Writing in the Sciences, or Cultural Rhetorics.

Applicants with experience in program administration and personnel supervision are also preferred.
Applicants with research and teaching interests in Multilingual Writing, Linguistics, and/or Sociolinguistics are preferred.

Secondary areas of interest include Composition Theory, Writing Pedagogies, Technical and Professional Writing, Writing in the Sciences, or Cultural Rhetorics.
