Job Summary:
Position Description
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) seeks to fill a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Speech Science.

The position requires an active research program with publications in peer-reviewed journals, current or clear potential for extramural funding, excellence in teaching and service within the UT Dallas and professional communities.

Applicants with interests across the spectrum of basic, applied, and clinical research in speech are encouraged to apply.

Priority will be given to candidates with clinical or translational research programs and expertise in intervention research.

Faculty members teach undergraduate and graduate level courses within their discipline and area of expertise.

Cross-listing of undergraduate and graduate seminars facilitates multi-disciplinary student education.
The appointment commences for the fall 2026 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A PhD or equivalent in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Speech, Language, and Hearing Science or a related discipline (e.g., Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Engineering) and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service is required prior to employment.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.

We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: A doctoral research degree is required prior to joining and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Clinical credentials are preferred but not required.

Candidates with clinical or translational research programs will be prioritized for hire.
The Department of Speech, Language & Hearing in the School of Behavioral & Brain Sciences

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing is one of three departments within BBS .
BBS is home to a dynamic, collaborative research community that leads UT Dallas’ work in audiology and speech-language pathology, including the nation’s No. 5 audiology program and No. 18 speech-language pathology program.

Faculty members actively engage in research and clinical practice at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders, advancing research and patient care at its two Dallas-Fort Worth locations.

Collectively, BBS leads UT Dallas in R&D rate and new awards per faculty.

It houses 111 faculty and almost 3,000 students.


In the past year, BBS was recognized by the BlueRidge Institute for being #1 in Texas and #3 in the United States for NIH funding for schools of its type.

Within BBS , faculty members are surrounded by colleagues who interface with science and technology at every level of translation – with a keen focus on using our science to impact the health and well-being of people around the world while training the scientific leaders of tomorrow.
The UT Dallas Clinical and Translational Research Center provides comprehensive support for clinical research including regulatory support, administrative staffing, and access to core facilities.

Clinical and translational research programs are additionally facilitated by the UT Dallas Sammons BrainHealth Imaging Center.


Additional opportunities for vibrant interdisciplinary collaborations are available with UT Dallas Centers including the Center for Vital Longevity, the Center for Children and Families, the Texas Biomedical Device Center, and the Center for Advanced Pain Studies.

BBS faculty members also have vigorous collaborations with the UT Dallas Bioengineering and Electrical Engineering programs, the UT Southwestern Medical Center, and Baylor University Medical Center.
