The Department of Surgery (primary appointment) and the Department of Health Informatics and Data Science (secondary appointment) at Loyola University Chicago are seeking a candidate for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level.
The successful appointee will collaborate closely with Dr. Vivian Gahtan, Chair of Surgery, and the Center Director for the Center for Health Outcomes and Informatics Research ( CHOIR ).
As this is a tenure-track position, the faculty member will be expected to perform research and have an active role in teaching and service.
Qualifications
Required:
+ Possession of a terminal degree in Medicine, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, or an analogous field.
+ Profound knowledge in data science methodologies, especially in Health Informatics.
This skillset encompasses, but is not restricted to, machine learning, deep learning, and network science.
Preferred:
+ A demonstrated interest or previous experience in creating and improving graduate-level courses that focus on healthcare informatics and precision public health.
+ Demonstrated capability to forge robust collaborations with professionals in the health and healthcare sectors.
+ Expertise in natural language processing pertinent to clinical notes, adeptness in data integration, and proficiency in Electronic Health Record EHR integration.
Ideal:
+ The ideal candidate should demonstrate potential for developing a strong independent research program.
+ Experience or potential to secure extramural funding will be highly valued.
+ A keen interest in contributing to the departments’ graduate programs and related coursework.
+ Proven ability or potential to establish strong collaborations with healthcare professionals at the institution, in the region, and nationally.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree; training; field or discipline; budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
Salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.
