This is an open-field search.

While candidates with doctorates in computer science or closely related fields are encouraged to apply, we also welcome applicants from other disciplines who have a strong record of computationally engaged scholarship and teaching in emerging fields such as digital humanities, computational social science, computationally-intensive natural sciences, or creative computing in the arts.

We are especially interested in those who can help students connect technical expertise with broader questions of culture, society, and domain-specific applications.

At Kenyon, computationally engaged scholarship spans a wide spectrum of disciplines.

Faculty in mathematics and physics use simulation and data analysis to model complex systems; biologists employ machine learning and image analysis to study behavior and biodiversity; social scientists explore computational methods for understanding networks, policy, and inequality; and scholars in the humanities and arts experiment with digital storytelling, text mining, and generative media.

At the same time, faculty across the College bring humanistic and creative perspectives to bear on computing itself, examining its cultural and ethical dimensions, exploring how algorithms shape power and representation, and using design, narrative, and critical theory to imagine more equitable and expressive computational futures. The Interdisciplinary Program in Computing (COMP) provides a shared space where such approaches can intersect, evolve, and be taught explicitly as part of a liberal arts education.

COMP prepares students to think critically about the role of computing in the world while gaining hands-on experience in applying computational methods across diverse fields.

Faculty in COMP teach courses that range from foundational computing to integrative, cross-disciplinary topics, and they collaborate closely with colleagues across the College to create opportunities for students to explore how computing intersects with the human record, scientific inquiry, systems of power, and creative expression.Kenyon offers an exceptional environment for faculty to thrive as teacher-scholars.
