Department Summary:

The Zimpleman College of Business is comprised of 64 full-time faculty and staff members.

Together, we work to ensure that our undergraduate and graduate students are equipped with the technical skills, business acumen, empathy, and experience to prepare them for immediate and lasting success.


We are looking for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to work within the School of Actuarial Science & Risk Management (SoASRM).

Drake also offers two undergraduate minors—one in Risk Management and Insurance and one in Actuarial Science.

Job Summary:

We are excited to launch a search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Actuarial Science.

This is a full-time, 9-month appointment starting in August of 2026.


In this role, you will enjoy colleagues in a high-performance faculty team focused on teaching and scholarship.

The duties of this position include teaching a range of courses supporting the School, including courses related to actuarial science, insurance, and statistics.

We are looking for a candidate with a strength in research.

An existing research record or interest in publishing in actuarial journals is desirable.


While serving in this role, you will also have opportunities to perform service to the actuarial science profession.

Service opportunities may, among others, include advising students and student organizations, developing curricula, and outreach to the local insurance community.


The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
Minimum Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in actuarial science, statistics, or closely related field paired with an actuarial credential such as an ASA, ACAS, FSA, or FCAS.

Candidates making progress toward the credential are encouraged to apply.

Those near completion (ABD) will be considered with a requirement of degree completion.
Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness.
