Position Description:

The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Miami School of Communication invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in Communication & Social Influence within community settings, particularly in relation to persuasion, health, risk, environment, culture or public advocacy, to begin August 15, 2026.

We seek a scholar whose research explores how communication shapes attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors at individual, group, or societal levels.

Applicants with expertise in persuasion, social change communication, activism, or media and technology influence are especially encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong research agenda, a record (or clear potential) for scholarly publication, and a commitment to excellent teaching and mentorship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.


Responsibilities include:
+ Conducting high-quality, theory-driven and/or applied research in communication and social influence.
+ Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in social influence, health communication, organizational communication, communication theory, research methods, and related areas.
+ Advising and mentoring students at multiple levels.
+ Contributing to the intellectual life and service needs of the department, school, and university.
+ Contributing to the development of relevant certificates and courses in social influence (or civic engagement).
+ Engaging in interdisciplinary collaborations that align with the School’s mission and the department’s strategic priorities.
+ Contributing to department, school, and university service, and collaborating with the Office of Civic Engagement to foster community-based learning and research initiatives.
+ Seeking extramural funding for research



Minimum Qualifications:
+ Ph.D. in Communication (completed by August 15, 2026).
+ Evidence of scholarly productivity through publications, conference presentations, and/or equivalent research activity in communication & social influence, health communication, or organizational communication.
+ Evidence of, or strong potential for, excellence in teaching and mentoring students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly courses related to social influence and civic engagement, research methods (preferably quantitative), communication theory, and/or possibly organizational communication.



Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience or interest in research that connects communication and social influence with community, health, politics, culture, or technology.
+ Ability to teach advanced quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods.
+ Openness to interdisciplinary research.
+ Demonstrated potential for securing external research funding.
