The Department of Cybersecurity in the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position focused on the Cybersecurity of Game Design and Development.
While we encourage applications from all candidates with interests at the intersection of the two areas, we are particularly interested in candidates with emerging interests in areas such as game security, anti-cheat systems, protection of virtual economies, and securing multiplayer network infrastructures.
The successful candidate will be supported in developing a research agenda with real-world impact across sectors like business, healthcare, energy, and government.
They will also have opportunities to collaborate with faculty, industry partners, and external organizations to explore innovative solutions to evolving security challenges in gaming.

Primary Responsibilities:
+ Build and sustain a synergistic research agenda within Cybersecurity and Game Design and Development, and UAlbany more broadly to impact the real world in various ways, such as healthcare, energy, sustainability, critical infrastructure, government, and business or finance.
+ Build original research in areas such as game security, anti-cheat techniques, game economy protection, and network infrastructure security for multiplayer games.
+ Publish research findings in reputable journals and conferences, and contribute to the advancement of Cybersecurity practices in Game Design and Development.
+ Collaborate with other faculty members, industry experts, and external partners to explore innovative solutions to emerging security challenges in the gaming sector.
+ Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in in-person, hybrid, and on-line environments that foster transformation towards a more secure and just cyber-society.
+ Advise and mentor diverse undergraduate and graduate students with strong commitment to excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
+ Apply for external funding.
+ Engage with the UAlbany community, Cybersecurity and Game Design professionals and academic societies, industry, and granting agencies.
+ Contribute to administrative/service responsibilities within CEHC.
+ Other position-relevant duties, as assigned.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
+ Reports to Chair of the Cybersecurity Department.
+ Supervises the following positions: Graduate Assistants and Peer Educators, as assigned
Job Requirements:
+ Foundational Expertise in cybersecurity and game development, including knowledge of game security, anti-cheat systems, multiplayer infrastructure, and secure coding and networking practices.
+ Emerging Research Potential with the ability to develop an impactful research agenda and contribute to interdisciplinary applications.
+ Aptitude for Effective Teaching and Curriculum Design skills for delivering engaging undergraduate and graduate courses in various formats (in-person, hybrid, online).
+ Collaborative and Communication Skills to work with faculty, industry partners, and external stakeholders, and to contribute to academic publishing and grant development.
+ Problem-Solving and Innovation in addressing complex security challenges in gaming environments and applying creative approaches to research and instruction.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
+ A PhD or other terminal degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization, in a subject related to the confluence of cybersecurity and game design, such as Cybersecurity, Modeling and Simulation, Game Design & Development, Information Science, Computer Science, or another related field.
+ Demonstrated potential in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Cybersecurity, Networking, Game Design, Visualization, Modeling, and Simulation, in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
+ Evidence of Cybersecurity or Game Design and Development in their existing research.
+ Demonstrated potential for obtaining external funding for their research
+ Commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusivity in teaching, research, and/or general work environment
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
+ Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Cybersecurity, Networking, Game Design, Visualization, Modeling, and Simulation, in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).
+ A plan for developing a scholarly agenda in Cybersecurity and Game Design and Development at UAlbany.
+ Knowledge in:
+ Developing or securing video games, game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine), and an understanding of game mechanics, OR
+ Anti-cheat software or piracy protection or cracking, OR
+ Game security and safety protocols and maintaining game system integrity and trust, OR
+ Cloud gaming infrastructure, multiplayer game security, or game economy protection, OR
+ Artificial Intelligence/Machines learning (e.g., reinforcement learning, adversarial learning, federated learning, privacy-preserving AI/ML).
+ Experience in exploring game development for cybersecurity.
+ Demonstrated collaboration with industry leaders in Cybersecurity in Game Design and Development.
+ Experience mentoring students in research or project-based settings.
