Job description

Overview

The English Department at Trinity University seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in medieval literature and culture.

Teaching and research specialties may include the Global Middle Ages, premodern critical race studies, gender and sexuality studies, disability studies, ecocritical studies, book or manuscript studies, or other theoretical or interdisciplinary approaches which focus on the period before ca 1450.

Teaching responsibilities will include upper-division seminars in the successful candidate's field of specialization, as well as surveys of pre-1800 literature, introductions to literary study, First-Year Experience courses, and other courses in the Pathways general education curriculum.

Candidates should have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, a passion for mentoring undergraduates, and an active research agenda.

In addition, candidates should have a PhD in hand or plan to complete their program's PhD degree requirements by August 2026.

This position is eligible for employment Visa sponsorship.

Trinity offers science, liberal arts, and pre-professional programs to approximately 2,500 undergraduate students from the U.S. and more than 45 countries.

The English Department is housed in Dicke Hall, and is part of Trinity's Carlos Alvarez School of Arts and Humanities.

The Departments of English, Classical Studies, History, Philosophy, and Religion are located nearby to foster collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will possess expertise in the literature and culture of the Middle Ages.

In addition to researching and publishing in those fields, they will design and teach upper-division undergraduate seminars in their areas of specialization.

Other teaching responsibilities will include surveys of British pre-1800 literature, introductions to literary study, First-Year Experience courses, and other courses in Pathways, Trinity University's interdisciplinary general education program.

Qualifications

Education — Required: PhD in English or a closely related field, in hand or with a plan to complete the PhD by August 2026.

Experience — Required: Undergraduate teaching experience; Research/scholarship expertise in Medieval literature and culture.
