Job description

The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Experimental Physical Chemistry, broadly defined.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field, and a minimum of one year of post-doctoral experience is required by the date of employment.

The start date for the position is July 1, 2026.

This open position is for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of physical chemistry.

A successful candidate will assume all of the ordinary responsibilities of a faculty member, including teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, building an independent and highly recognized research program, and providing service to the department, college, and university.

The candidate is expected to teach in the undergraduate chemistry curriculum including CHM 030 or CHM 040 (General Chemistry I), CHM 303 or 040 (General Chemistry II), CHM 341 (Quantum), CHM 342 (Physical Chemistry), and/or CHM 343 (Physical Chemistry Laboratory), and a graduate course in the candidate’s field.

The individual hired is expected to develop a vibrant research program as evidenced by: · A highly impactful scholarly output · Sustainable external funding · Leadership in their field · Effective mentorship of Ph.D. students There are opportunities to develop collaborations within the Department and across the university in a variety of fields.

Members of the Department are expected to demonstrate excellence in both teaching and mentoring an inclusive student population and to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.

The individual hired will be expected to display a strong commitment to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels and to include undergraduates in their research program.

Faculty in the Department assist in the administrative and governance functions of the department, the university, and the profession via service on committees as appropriate.
