Position Summary
The University of Central Arkansas Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching, research and service.
This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
The position is tenure track and a nine-month appointment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities The University of Central Arkansas Department of Art and Design invites applications for a full time Assistant Professor of Graphic Design.
To support the current needs, future changes, and growth of the department, we are looking for an experienced, versatile, and innovative teacher and designer with a breadth of experience and knowledge in a broad range of graphic design techniques.
Potential courses taught may include all levels of Graphic Design, Visual Design, Advertising, Illustration, UX/UI, Time Based Media BA & BFA Professional Track, and First-Year Foundations.
The candidate will be required to mentor students in professional behavior and readiness, through internships, and academic advising to keep students on track towards graduation.
The candidate is expected to maintain an active record of scholarly and creative activity and service to the University.
Additional responsibilities at the department level may include: committee work related to degree program promotion and student retention, department brand and identity development, assisting in maintenance of shared area equipment and shared printers, assisting with promotional newsletters, assisting with website upkeep, and coordinating with the two on-campus galleries (the Baum and the Windgate) regarding the development of promotional material.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The Graphic Design area includes access to a student work studio (with standing desks, digital projector, whiteboard space, and black & white desktop printer) and a student digital lab (Apple Mac stations loaded with the latest Adobe software, desktop color laser printer, digital projector, whiteboard space, and discussion table seating).
Faculty and students also have access to the UCA MakerSpace (see
https://uca.edu/art/uca-makerspace/) as well as numerous other on-site digital, print, and studio based classrooms and equipment.

Required Education and/or Experience The formal education of a doctorate or terminal degree required.
Preferred Education and/or Experience Terminal degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Visual Studies, or related field.
The ideal candidate has a background, education, or experience in graphic design, digital arts, or visual communications.
The ideal candidate will have also demonstrated professional design or experience (client-driven or self-initiated) with a focus on creative practice or research encompassing areas such as graphic design, typography, web, UX/UI design (interactive design), motion graphics, and emerging forms of digital media.
Preferred additional qualifications include, one (1) or more years teaching experience (including undergraduate teaching experience), one (1) or more years of professional field experience, willingness to integrate collaborative AI, knowledge of design theory and historical and contemporary trends in graphic design, and a professionally active record of achievement License(s)/Certifications (Required or Preferred)
