Summary of Job Duties:

The Assistant Professor of Political Science will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in comparative politics and/or international relations, as well as teaching the program’s two courses in the university’s core curriculum, American National Government and Intro to International Politics.

Teaching will include both face-to-face and online course modes.

The successful candidate will advise undergraduate students.

The successful candidate will conduct and publish scholarly research.

Research activities may include community engagement and applied research publications.

This position will participate in faculty governance in the School of Public Affairs, the College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Political Science with a field or emphasis in either comparative politics or international relations;
  • ABD candidates will be considered if the doctoral degree will be complete by the time of employment.
  • Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience in college teaching and evidence of scholarship or scholarly potential.
  • Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the School of Public Affairs;
  • Advise undergraduate students regarding their programs of study and degree progress;
  • Conduct scholarly and applied research;
  • Serve on committees as part of faculty governance at the school, college, and university levels;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Public Affairs.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of either comparative politics or international relations as a field of teaching, research, and service;
  • Teaching skills;
  • Ability to advise students in their program of study and about career opportunities;
  • Ability to conduct scholarly;
  • Ability to work with external stakeholder groups for the purpose of community engagement;
  • Ability to work with faculty and staff in a collegial manner to engage in faculty governance and accomplish goals.
