Department Summary


The Department of Social Work in the School of Behavioral Health and Human Services invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor who will also serve as Director of the fully online Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program.

Responsibilities include teaching courses in the undergraduate program, along with leadership responsibilities as the BSW Program Director.

The candidate selected for this position will be expected to oversee day-to-day operations of the online BSW program, including scheduling, course development, advising, and program assessment; Ensure ongoing compliance with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS); Coordinate with field education director to support remote field placements and supervision; Lead curriculum review, development, and online pedagogy planning; Manage online program growth, marketing collaboration, and student success initiatives; Teach 6 online courses per academic year across generalist curriculum areas (e.g., HBSE, policy, practice); Maintain virtual office hours and provide accessible academic advising and mentoring; Serve on departmental, college, and university committees; Collaborate with admissions, instructional design, and IT to ensure quality online delivery; Support recruitment, orientation, and retention of online BSW students.

Position Overview


Responsibilities include coordinating all aspects of field education for online students across multiple states; developing and maintaining relationships with virtual and in-person agencies for practicum placements; matching students with appropriate field sites based on geographic location, practice area, and learning goals; training and supporting field instructors and faculty liaisons; ensuring all field operations meet CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS); maintaining and updating the BSW Field Education Manual and field course syllabi; collecting, analyzing, and reporting assessment data for field education outcomes.

The faculty members will teach 3 online courses per academic semester, including Field Seminar and generalist practice areas (e.g., HBSE, Policy, Diversity); use learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Zoom) and student engagement tools to deliver high-quality synchronous and asynchronous content; advise and mentor BSW students, with a focus on navigating online learning and field readiness; participate in curriculum development, assessment, and CSWE accreditation efforts; maintain virtual office hours and provide accessible academic advising and mentoring; serve on departmental, college, and university committees; collaborate with admissions, instructional design, and IT to ensure quality online delivery; support recruitment, orientation, and retention of online BSW students.




Minimum Qualifications


Master's degree in social work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited Social Work program and a minimum of two years full-time professional practice experience (post-Master's degree).




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Experience teaching multiple courses across the social work curriculum;

  • Experience with academic program leadership or coordination.

  • Familiarity with online learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).

  • Knowledge of online student support needs, inclusive pedagogy, and digital accessibility.

  • Experience with field education, student advising, and accreditation processes.

  • Evidence of scholarly engagement and professional development.




Preferred Qualifications


• Doctoral degree (Ph.D.)
• Experience teaching multiple courses across the social work curriculum;
• Experience with academic program leadership or coordination.
• Familiarity with online learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).
