The Judaic Studies Department and the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Binghamton University invite applications for a tenure-track appointment in Talmud and Rabbinics at the rank of assistant professor.
Candidates should demonstrate expertise in the classical Jewish canon from late antiquity through the early Middle Ages, with a preference for the cultural context of the Near East or the eastern Mediterranean.
Command of Hebrew and Aramaic is expected, and competence in at least one other relevant language, such as Ancient Greek, Arabic, or Latin, is desirable.
A range of methodological approaches is welcome, including Religious Studies, Literary Studies, History, and Philosophy, as well as interdisciplinary approaches.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute courses on the Bible in its historical context, rabbinic texts, and early Jewish history.
The position will be housed in the Judaic Studies Department, though the successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies as well.

+ PhD in Religious Studies or a relevant field by August 17, 2026
+ Demonstrated expertise in the classical Jewish canon from late antiquity through the early Middle Ages
+ Proficiency in Hebrew and Aramaic
+ Teaching experience at the college or university level
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Competency in an additional relevant language (such as Ancient Greek, Arabic, or Latin)
+ Research focus on the Near East or the eastern Mediterranean
