The University of Houston-Downtown is an urban university located in the fourth largest city in the U.S. UHD is a federally-recognized Hispanic-Serving Institution and Minority-Serving Institution.
UHD is a teaching university; full-time faculty teach a 4-3 or 3-4 course load and have additional opportunities to teach special projects and summer courses.
The political science program invites applications for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Latin American politics beginning Fall 2025.

An active research agenda and engagement in service at the institution will be expected of the candidate who joins our department.
Full-time political science faculty at UHD are also expected to teach POLS 2305: and POLS 2306: though prior experience with these courses is not required.

Qualifications
Required : Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in political science from a regionally-accredited institution by the time of employment.
Preferred : Candidates must demonstrate the potential to pursue an active research agenda in the international relations and/or comparative politics of Latin America; to teach and create new courses on Latin America; to develop teaching methods that promote active learning and engagement; to work with nontraditional students; to teach across multiple course delivery modes, which can include in-person, online, and HyFlex; and to pursue an active service life within and outside of the university.
