Position Description Summary The home campus for this position is Bloomsburg with the expectation of serving a multi-campus University within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

About the Department: The Computer Science program is ABET-accredited and offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science offered at the Bloomsburg campus.

It is one of two Computer Science related programs offered by Commonwealth University.

An Applied Computer Science undergraduate program with tracks in Web Development and Data Science is offered at the Bloomsburg and Lock Haven campuses.

The ABET Computer Science program is part of the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Digital Forensics, which also offers undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity.

The department currently includes 31 full-time faculty members (20 at the Bloomsburg campus) and 6 full-time and one half-time Computer Science faculty members (3 at the Bloomsburg campus).

The Department currently enrolls about 130 Computer Science majors (100 at the Bloomsburg campus).

About the College: The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Digital Forensics is one of seven departments in the College of Health, Science, and Technology at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania.

Duties The successful candidate will need to complete distance education training programs as made available by the University within two years of hire for the purpose of teaching in a multi-campus environment with remote teaching needs.

Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred) Ph.D. (or ABD) in Computer Science or related field.

Preferred Qualifications Ability to teach a range of Computer Science courses.

Demonstrated strong record of excellence in teaching, or a clear potential for effective teaching, as evidenced by prior instructional experience.

Evidence of ongoing scholarly activity.

Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Course assignments will reflect the interests and experience of the faculty member and the needs of the department, with opportunities to develop new courses in areas of interest.

In addition to teaching, duties include continued professional development through research and other scholarly activities, advisement of department majors, committee work, and departmental, college, and university service.

M inimum Qualifications A complete application includes a cover letter, curriculum vitae, unofficial graduate transcripts, a statement of teaching experience and philosophy, a statement of research interests and plans for scholarly growth, and contact information for three references.

Applicants may submit up to three letters of recommendation addressing teaching and/or research; however, letters are not required for a complete application.

Applicants with an ABD will be considered, with Ph.D. expected by August 2026.

Finalist(s) for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process and give an undergraduate-oriented teaching and research presentation judged by the department faculty.

Recommendation for hiring is needed from a majority of the regular, full-time department faculty.

Completing this search is contingent upon student enrollment and available funding.

Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors.

In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date.
