The School of Education at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for two (2) full-time, non-tenure track, positions beginning August 2026 with requirements to be physically present on campus.
One position is Assistant Teaching Professor, one is Instructor.
We aim to recruit applicants who will emphasize training initial licensure candidates in elementary education to become technologically competent, culturally-responsive educators who have an impact on the learning of P-12 students.
The School of Education’s Curriculum and Instruction and Elementary Education programs include Bachelors and Masters degrees and include face-to-face, online, and hybrid delivery formats.
Qualified applicants will be prepared to contribute to the teaching mission of the School of Education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborating with colleagues on program development andenhancement of pre-service and in-service teacher education programs.Supervising elementary and/or special education practicum
experiences and/or internships.Teaching and mentoring students across programs.Contributing to the mission of the university and profession
through service activities.Performing
other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsFor Instructor position:
Graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, or elementary education-focused degree such as content area teacher education (by August 2026).
Two (2) or more years of full-time licensed teaching experience with standards-based curriculum in an elementary general education classroom.
For Assistant Teaching Professor:
All of the above PLUS
Doctoral degree in same areas above, conferred by August 2026
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate, concise and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner to a diverse population.
Experience setting clear performance expectations and provision of meaningful feedback. Experience and/or familiarity with technology use, particularly in the online learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an instructional leadership role at the school or district levelExperience with teaching reading, mathematics, or inclusive practices in elementary settings.
