**Details**
The Department of Biomedical Engineering ( BME ) at The University of Utah invites applications from qualified individuals with full-time experience and decision-making responsibilities for a 9-month (annually Aug.

16 – May 15) Career-line faculty position in the area of Regulatory Affairs, Medical Device Design and Regulatory Science.

The anticipated start date is August 1, 2025.

This position is anticipated to be filled at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor (Lecturer).

Qualifications for this faculty position include relevant experience and strong interest in teaching Regulatory Affairs, Regulatory Science, and medical device design courses.

Practical experience in regulatory affairs/regulatory science and engineering design in biomedical/pharmaceutical/biotechnology industries is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be willing and capable to specifically:

(1) Teach established Regulatory Affairs courses addressing the fundamentals of US and EU medical device and combination products regulations;

(2) Teach Medical Device Design and the FDA Design Control processes and associated laboratory teaching activities in established curricula at undergraduate and graduate levels;

(3) Administer department undergraduate and graduate certificates in Regulatory Affairs;

(4) Develop a Minor degree in Regulatory Affairs/Regulatory Science in Biomedical Engineering;

(5) Continue department efforts to produce a Masters degree in Regulatory Affairs;

(6) Develop a new interdepartmental program in Regulatory Science in collaboration with other Colleges and Departments at the University (e.g., College of Pharmacy, College of Science);

(7) Participate in team teaching, student mentoring, and other faculty and service-related duties at Department, College, and University levels as required of all department faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

+ Post-baccalaureate degree (e.g., M.S.) and experience or professional certifications in Regulatory Affairs and Medical Device Design Control;
+ 3-4 years of experience in Regulatory Affairs/Medical Device design prior to date of hire;
+ Strong communication skills and the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies to deliver quality academic programming.
+ Desire and capability to across disciplinary boundaries in teaching healthcare technology.

Desired Qualifications

+ An earned doctoral (e.g., Ph.D., D.Sc.) degree in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline;
+ Experience and interest in medical device design and translation, and comprehensive understanding of regulatory issues in devices and drugs;
+ Higher education teaching or regulatory and medical device design training experience.

In the past decade, the number of tenure-track faculty positions has grown by 50% and research expenditures have more than tripled, to over $81.5 million per year, placing our College in the top 30 engineering universities in the country for research volume.

The BME Department currently has 25 tenure track faculty members, 4 career-line faculty, plus we are actively searching for 3 positions including this vacancy.

Our enrollment is 134 full-time graduate students, and 400 undergraduate students.

The Department offers an ABET -accredited Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering, various Masters degrees, and a capstone PhD degree.
