**Position Description:**

The School of Financial Planning in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice to begin Spring 2026 or Fall 2026.

Contributes to the university's mission through teaching in an area of expertise, mentoring students in professional and career preparation and serving as liaison with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

This is a non-tenure track, multi-year renewable appointment contingent on successful annual and cumulative performance appraisals as well as a majority affirmative vote of the academic unit.

Summer appointments possible, but not guaranteed, contingent on demand for courses and availability of funding.

**Major/Essential Functions:**

The position includes teaching in an area of expertise (to include mentoring students in professional and career preparation) and service.

The following functions are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.

**Administrative Leadership (40%)**

+ Establish, implement, and manage research, outreach, engagement, and service initiatives for the Center for Financial Responsibility (CFR) in alignment with its mission to expand research endeavors and educational outreach aimed at improving the financial well-being of individuals and families.
+ Lead CFR development activities to identify and pursue funding sources to support the CFR’s goals and execute its programs, including Federal and corporate grant applications, industry-sponsored funding, and private donations.
+ Seek avenues to develop interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary partnerships with centers, departments, and colleges across campus.
+ Assess CFR needs and development to support optimal functioning, growth, sustainability, and continuity.
+ Supervise the collection and upkeep of records for use in Texas Tech University and state reports relevant to the CFR, including financial management and recordkeeping for the CFR budget.
+ Collaborate with the School to efficiently administer state-allocated funds.
+ Lead the completion of assessment activities.
+ Attend School, College, and University events where Center leadership representation is needed.

Ensure Center presence at all events.
+ Provide a recruitment and development plan for the year and provide a year-end summary report summarizing activities, fund use, and program results.
+ Maintain up-to-date files relevant to operations, procedures, and students on the shared School network drive (“O”) to support Center continuity and service.

**Outreach and Engagement (40%)**

+ Collaborate with the Office of the Provost Outreach and Engagement to align engagement efforts and facilitate partnerships.
+ Engage in community partner relationship building and recruitment to generate and strengthen community partnerships and facilitate outreach and engagement opportunities.
+ Generate engaged scholarship and community-engaged learning opportunities through outreach and engagement efforts.
+ Lead and manage the Knowledge Empowering You (KEY) program, including student recruitment, training, feedback on presentations and coaching sessions, and maintenance of records of KEY volunteer hours for reporting to CFP® and AFC®.

Recruit members for the KEY Advisory Board and lead the planning and execution of bi-annual meetings.
+ Lead and manage the Charles Schwab Foundation Financial Planning Clinic to provide financial coaching to the community, facilitate research, and incorporate into coursework.
+ Lead and manage the Financial Planning Academy summer camp program as a collaborative outreach initiative with the faculty director and staff team.
+ Lead and direct the Financial Planning Research Series to foster a culture of interdisciplinary research.

**Teaching (10%)**
Teach a minimum of one class per academic year in an undergraduate or graduate course.

**Service (10%)**
Actively engage in School, College, University, and professional service.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

1.

Active or progress towards professional certification relevant to personal finance and financial planning, such as the CFP® and AFC® certifications.
2.

Development experience, including federal and corporate grants, industry fundraising, and private donations.
3.

Experience teaching courses specifically in a CFP Board-registered education program or AFC® approved curriculum track.
4.

Evidence of leadership and administrative experience in higher education, including managing teams, creating and implementing processes and procedures, performance management, collaboration, and consensus building.
5.

Excellent communication skills, both oral & written, as evidenced by supporting documents (resume, vita, etc.), email correspondence, and interviews.
6.

Active membership in relevant professional organizations.

**About the Department/School/Area:**

+ The School of Financial Planning offers a B.S. in Applied Personal Finance, and a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Personal Financial Planning.

All Personal Financial Planning programs are registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

All programs meet the education requirement for the AFC® certification.
+ Three dual degrees are offered: JD/MS in PFP, MBA/MS in PFP, and MS Tax/MS PFP and a minor in Agricultural Economics Ph.D. is also supported.
+ Graduate certificates in Charitable Financial Planning and Financial Health and Wellness are provided as well as a professional MS degree delivered in a hybrid format at the TTU DFW location.
+ An online minor in Personal Finance and courses to meet the financial literacy needs of students are offered.
+ Enrollment of majors includes approximately 240 undergraduate students and 171 graduate students, of which 37 are doctoral.

There are 126 Personal Finance minors and 555 Personal Finance concentrations.
+ Faculty positions currently include 12 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 4 professors of practice, 1 lecturers, and adjunct faculty who work as a team to accomplish the School’s collective goals.
+ Students take classes and study in the 4,200 square foot Charles Schwab/PFP Technology Complex.
+ The Center for Financial Responsibility (CFR) facilitates research, outreach, and engagement opportunities for the School of Financial Planning.
+ Knowledge Empowering You (KEY) Outreach works with students in the School of Financial Planning to provide educational outreach and financial coaching in the Lubbock community.
+ Financial Planning Academy, funded by Charles Schwab Foundation, is a summer camp that introduces high school students to the Registered Investment Advisory industry and provides education in the core areas of personal financial management.
+ The Charles Schwab Foundation Personal Financial Planning Clinic at Texas Tech University is a community-based outreach endeavor focused on promoting family financial resiliency and empowerment by offering no-cost one-on-one financial coaching to all members of the Lubbock community.

This service additionally generates impactful hands-on experiential learning opportunities for the next generation of financial planners within the Texas Tech University School of Financial Planning and contributes to the creation of applied research on family financial communication, financial well-being, and financial decision-making.
+ School of Financial Planning students apply their knowledge through Red to Black® Peer Financial Coaching through the TTU Office of Student Services, providing financial education and awareness to TTU students through individual coaching sessions, presentations, outreach booths, and resource referrals.
+ Travel funding is supported pending funding availability for faculty and students to attend conferences annually for professional development and presentations, as well as funding for continuing education.

**Faculty Qualifications:**

1.

Candidates must have an earned Master’s, Ph.D., J.D. or Ed.D. degree in Personal Financial Planning (PFP), Public Administration, Educational Leadership, Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Consumer/Family Economics, Law, or an appropriate field.
2.

Evidence of leadership in service, outreach, and community engagement directly in or closely related to personal finance and personal financial planning.
3.

Experience in developing and maintaining strong relationships with industry partners, alumni, and other stakeholders as evidenced by outreach, community engagement, and service on supporting documents (resume, vita, etc).
4.

Evidence of teaching effectiveness as the instructor of record (includes experience teaching as a graduate student).
5.

Evidence of student or professional mentorship.
