Department Summary


The Department of Human Physiology is home to undergraduate and graduate students who desire strong training in human physiology and anatomy that will prepare them for careers in medicine, allied health professions, and biomedical research.

The department is strongly committed to inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices.

The department has strengths in cardiovascular, respiratory and muscle physiology, neuroscience/motor control, cell signaling and metabolism, and biomechanics.

Human Physiology has strong partnerships with university athletics, the Bioengineering Department, the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, and is aligned with a new Provost’s initiative on Sport and Wellness.

The Department of Human Physiology is dedicated to building a diverse community that is committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

The department has an active Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, that establishes yearly goals related to improving climate and experiences for faculty, staff, and students.

The candidate is expected to be an active participant in the department, college and university DEI missions.

Located about 110 miles south of Portland, the University of Oregon is an AAU research institution with an enrollment of approximately 24,000.

The Eugene metro area population (250,000) is in a region noted for its high quality of life and progressive cultural environment.

We are approximately a one-hour drive from the Pacific Coast and the Cascade Mountains.


Position Summary


Minimum Requirements


Assistant Teaching Professor:
• Master’s degree in Human Physiology or a related field.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in the fields related to this position (e.g. teaching college level courses, creating and delivering training programs, mentoring undergraduate or graduate student theses, guest lectures, or other related instructional experience).

To be considered for the rank of Associate Teaching Professor, candidates must meet all the requirements of Assistant rank plus:
• Six years of instructional experience in higher education post-receipt of a master’s degree.
• Evidence of high-quality teaching and professional expertise in the field as related to the position.
