Job Description:
The Department of Computer Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa, seeks outstanding applicants for an open rank faculty (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) position.

We are looking for exceptional candidates in the broad area of Artificial Intelligence.


The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a strong, externally funded computer science research program, conduct collaborative and interdisciplinary research, publish in top venues, supervise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate computer science courses, mentor and engage undergraduates, as well as prospective students, and enhance Iowa State University through professional and institutional service.


Required Minimum Qualifications:
+ Ph.D. or equivalent degree by start date in computer science or a closely related field.
+ Evidence of a strong publication record in top-tier conferences or journals.



In addition, positions at the following ranks will also require:

ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR:
+ Demonstrated leadership in the field
+ Demonstrated ability to maintain an externally funded research program
+ Demonstrated ability or potential to lead large research projects
+ A record that meets the standards for tenure at Iowa State University

Department/Program & College Description:
Iowa State University is the birthplace of the first electronic digital computer, the Atanasoff-Berry Computer, developed between 1939 and 1942.

The Department of Computer Science resides in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offering B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and a brand-new M.S. degree in Artificial Intelligence.

The department is proud to be one of the founding departments for the B.S. degree in Software Engineering, B.S. degree in Data Science, Data Science Minor and Certificate, Master of Financial Technology, along with the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

We are active in interdepartmental graduate programs in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Human-Computer Interactions, and Cybersecurity.


The Computer Science department participates in many interdisciplinary research collaborations, including partnerships with faculty in biosciences, mathematical sciences, and engineering.

The department has 38 faculty professionals, 746 B.S. students, 89 M.S. students, 165 Ph.D. students, and over 600 B.S. students in Software Engineering.

All admitted Ph.D. students are offered a two-year teaching assistantship from the department, and almost all are supported by research or teaching assistantships after that.


The department has strong research and educational programs in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Human Computer Interaction, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Software Engineering and Programming Languages, Systems and Networking, and Theoretical Foundations.

Our department has over $16 million in active research grants, including the interdisciplinary activities mentioned, and we contribute to active research and training grants totaling approximately $25 million.
