The Cancer and Blood Disease Institute (CBDI) at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Division of Hematology-Oncology within the Department of Pediatrics, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (USC) are recruiting a Clinical Investigator specializing in hematologic malignancies to serve as Associate Director of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Program.
This individual will assist in the leadership of clinical and clinical research activities in pediatric hematologic malignancies.
They will be expected to partner with the Leukemia/Lymphoma Program Director in program oversight, and to provide patient care, develop and lead clinical trials, and further advance a leading clinical research program.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years as an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology with a focus in hematologic malignancies and the desire to become a leader in clinical trial development.
The position includes membership of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and an academic appointment through USC Keck School of Medicine at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, appropriate to training and experience.
The Leukemia/Lymphoma Program at CHLA is one of the largest in the nation and sees approximately 120 new patients each year.
The Program has robust clinical, translational, and basic science research infrastructure, and CHLA is the headquarters for The Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia/Lymphoma (TACL) Consortium.
Some other Program highlights include comprehensive genomic characterization, bench-to-bedside investigations of novel agents, and field-leading cellular therapies.
The Program has close partnership with the CBDI’s Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program, which performs 80-100 transplants and 20-40 CAR T-cell therapies annually.
The CBDI has a cell processing laboratory and cGMP facility, and is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).
The CBDI is the largest and top-ranked pediatric hematology-oncology program in the western U.S. TheU.S. News & World Reportranked CHLA #8 and the CBDI #14 in the nation in 2022-23.
The CBDI has a large clinical trials operation that supports programs in hematology, oncology, and transplantation/cellular therapy.
CBDI investigators conduct extensive bench-to-bedside research.
Research funding in FY22 totaled $54 million with $9 million in new awards.
The CBDI hosts an ACGME-accredited pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship training program and 1-year advanced subspecialty fellowships in Transplantation/Cellular Therapy, AYA Oncology, Neuro-Oncology, and Coagulation.
Strong administrative, clinical, research and financial support will be provided, including staff, infrastructure, endowments, and institutional resources.
