The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 12 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus.

Job Description Summary:

The Texas A&M Semiconductor Institute (TSI) seeks a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as Associate Director of Space Manufacturing.

Reporting to the Director, Research, this position will be responsible for establishing and directing a robust program focused on advancing TSl's space-based semiconductor manufacturing research initiatives.

The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background in semiconductor fabrication, packaging, and testing, with a specific emphasis on the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the space environment.

This role requires a visionary individual capable of fostering collaborations across academia, industry, and government agencies to drive innovation and workforce development in this critical emerging field.




Responsibilities: - Develop and implement a strategic vision for space-based semiconductor manufacturing research, development, and workforce training at Texas A&M Semiconductor Institute (TSI).



- Lead the development and execution of research proposals and projects related to space-based semiconductor manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment.



- Establish and manage collaborations with key stakeholders, including industry partners, government agencies (e.g., NASA, DoD), and other academic institutions.



- Secure external funding from various sources, including government grants, industry contracts, and philanthropic donations.



- Provide recommendations and insights into the facility and equipment needs for space-based semiconductor manufacturing research and development.



- Recruit, mentor, and supervise a team of researchers, engineers, and technicians.



- In coordination with the TSI Director of Workforce Development, develop and implement educational and training programs related to space-based semiconductor manufacturing for students and professionals.



- Represent TSI at conferences, workshops, and other industry events.



- Contribute to the overall strategic direction and growth of Texas A&M Semiconductor lnstitute's (TSI's) research portfolio.



- Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in semiconductor manufacturing and space exploration.



- Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience: - Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.- Eight years of related experience, in semiconductor manufacturing or expertise in areas relevant to space applications (e.g., radiation hardening, reliability, extreme temperature operation).


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Proven track record of successful research and development in semiconductor manufacturing.



- Experience in securing and managing research funding.



- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.



- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.



- Familiarity with the space industry and relevant government regulations.



- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.




Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with space-based semiconductor fabrication and testing.- Established network of contacts within the space and semiconductor industries.- Experience in technology transfer and commercialization.
