**Job Summary**

The Department of Journalism in the College of Communication, Media, Design and Information (CMDI) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenured professor of journalism studies at the associate or full professor rank.
The successful candidate will identify within the broad field of journalism studies.

We are interested in candidates across all specialties within journalism studies but prefer candidates studying contemporary issues facing journalism.

We also strongly prefer candidates with interest in mentoring and advising journalism studies PhD students.

Department and college/university-level service will be a vital part of this appointment, and we prefer candidates with a proven record of similar service and/or interest in service and leadership.
The successful candidate must be well-grounded in journalism studies and open to creative interchange with colleagues practicing a variety of qualitative, quantitative and practice-based methodologies while researching and teaching journalism and media through both a social science and humanistic approach.

They should also have demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate students.

The position is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service and involves teaching two classes per semester.
The position will begin in August of 2026.

The Department also offers a PhD degree in journalism studies.

CMDI prides itself on offering students an interdisciplinary education with a focus on innovation and creativity! Our students and faculty from seven departments think across boundaries, innovate around emerging problems and create culture that transcends convention.

**What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be**

+ Teach two journalism courses per semester
+ Conduct research/creative work in the area of journalism studies
+ Do service within the Department of Journalism, CMDI and the University as a whole

**What We Can Offer**

The salary ranges for this position are as follows:

+ Associate Professor: $95,000 - $115,000
+ Full Professor: $115,000 - $150,000

**What We Require**

+ A PhD in journalism or a closely allied field
+ Already tenured at a University
+ At least six (6) years teaching at the undergraduate level
+ A research portfolio commensurate with tenurability at an R1 University
