Job Summary

Supervise dental students and/or residents in patient care activities at WesternU The Dental Center or other CDM locations.

Working with clinic administration, ensure an efficient, humanistic and patient-centered clinic operation providing high quality care to patients.

Educate students according to standards of the College of Dental Medicine (CDM).

Provide direct treatment to patients in a broad range of general dentistry services as required for operational success.

This is a full-time position in conjunction with an administrative appoitment.

1.

Recognized knowledge and experience in a broad range of general dentistry diagnostic and treatment services.
2.

Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups, both in writing and orally.
3.

Ability to interact in an effective and positive manner with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including administration, faculty, residents and/or students, staff, patients, and outside contacts.
4.

Ability to effectively conduct detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality.
5.

Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities in an academic environment.

Required Qualifications 1.

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or equivalent.2. Active California dental license or be qualified to obtain licensure or faculty special permit in California.3. Must have a valid Driver’s License4.

Must maintain a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that satisfies the requirements of the WesternU Vehicle Use Policy.

Preferred Qualifications 1.

Completion of a residency program in General Practice Residency or Advanced Education in General Dentistry.
2.

Minimum 3 years of clinical practice experience.
3.

Experience in supervising students and/or residents providing patient care in an academic setting.

List comments regarding work hours Hours are usually 8am-to5pm with a possibility of an earlier start.

Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Travel between CDM Clinical sites currently located but not limited to Pomona, El Monte, Chino Hills, and Rancho Mirage may be required.

1.

Supervise, assist, and teach students and/or residents in diagnosis, treatment planning, and performance of all phases of general dentistry including digital dentistry, removable prosthodontics, endodontics, surgical extractions, and treatment of medically complex patients.
2.

Serve as a role model and mentor for students and/or residents, providing feedback on individual performance and resources for improvement as appropriate.
3.

Maintain calibration with and set an example for students and/or residents by following CDM clinical and administrative protocols and procedures.
4.

Assist with the implementation of an efficient, patient-centered dental practice that supports the educational mission and financial objectives of the College.
5.

Maintain intellectual integrity and strive for academic excellence.
6.

Set an example of professional and humanistic behavior.
7.

Display excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Percentage Of Time 70 Job Duty Scholarship:
1.

Participate in relevant professional development activities and maintain continuing education as needed for licensure.
2.

Utilize evidence-based or scientifically founded information and pedagogical techniques while fulfilling assigned teaching and clinical supervision duties.
3.

Participate in presentation or publication of creative scholarly activity where appropriate and where the opportunity exists.

Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Research
1.

Participate as appropriate and as time permits in research projects, studies and surveys which are conducted in accord with University and College research plans and objectives.

Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Service:
1.

Serve on appropriate College and University committees as assigned.
2.

Participate in service to the profession and/or community service activities as assigned.

Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Clinical/Professional Practice
1.

Provide direct patient care in support of the clinical and educational missions of the College to allow the College to offer care to the community that may be too complex for students and/or residents, as a demonstration for student and/or resident learning, and to develop a patient population that will support the educational needs of the students and/or residents.
2.

Maintain proficiency in the use of electronic health records.
3.

Participate in the credentialing / privileging process, Quality Assurance Program, and treatment outcomes monitoring and evaluation systems related to patient care.
