Department Summary


The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for a full-time generalist position in Communication with an emphasis in strategic communication, beginning Fall 2025.

This tenure-track position is being offered at the Assistant Professor level.

The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching and to help lead development of the UNT Dallas Communication and Digital Media Department, which offers the B.A. degree with tracks in digital production, strategic communication, and communication studies.

This new faculty member will provide leadership in developing curricula, service and experiential learning opportunities, academic and community partnerships, and internships in nonprofit, media, and for-profit sectors throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

The successful candidate will be expected to help develop the Communication and Digital Media major as a premier, highly visible program at UNT Dallas.
We are particularly interested in student-centric, innovative, and energetic candidates who can help lead the development of UNTD’s Communication and Digital Media Department through program development, student recruitment, and community outreach.

We seek an experienced academic leader who can contribute to the Communication and Digital Media program by teaching a range of courses in mass communication, as well as other communication areas.

This new faculty member will also be responsible for developing online courses, a student communication club, and collaborative relationships with area mass communication organizations and agencies, broadcasters, community colleges, high schools, radio stations, and other communication entities.

Professional experience in the communication field would be a plus.

UNT Dallas offers faculty the unique opportunity to help shape the character of a 21st century, learner-focused, urban comprehensive university.

The Communication and Digital Media program currently includes a Speaking Center and online student radio station.

The university completed a new academic building in June 2019, which features a 6,000 square-foot media production suite and radio station.

It is our goal to build a state-of-the-art Communication and Digital Media Department in one of the country’s premier media markets, providing training, networking, and direct access to jobs for our graduates.




Position Overview

Minimum Qualifications



  • Ph.D. in communication, strategic communication, mass communication, digital production, or other closely related field; or MFA in media production, visual communication, graphic design, or other closely related field

  • Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching a range of mass and strategic communication courses, such as Introduction to Strategic

  • Communication, Computer Graphics, Creative Concepts, Strategic Communication Campaigns, Visual Communication, Public Relations Case Studies, Sports Broadcasting, and Crisis Communication

  • Experience or demonstrated potential for developing collaborative community partnerships

  • Experience or demonstrated potential in building, maintaining, and supervising a broad-based student internship program

  • Evidence or demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship

  • Evidence or demonstrated potential for leadership in academic program development

  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Expectations for tenure track faculty at UNT-D include excellent teaching, research, and service, resulting in contributions equivalent to a four-course load each semester.

This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching, high quality research and scholarship, service, and program development.

Faculty are also expected to participate in such service activities as curriculum development, online course development, student recruiting and advising, program assessment, project development, program leadership, coordinating service learning, and committee leadership.
