The University of Florida’s School of Architecture () in the College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP) invites applications for at least one faculty position in architectural design and research at the Assistant Professor level to be based on its main campus in Gainesville, Florida.


Position Summary:


The School of Architecture at UF invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We seek an innovative designer, educator, and researcher with strong research interests and who is prepared to thrive within a highly competitive R1 research university with demonstrated expertise in the areas of computational design, digital fabrication, robotics, or artificial intelligence.


This position is part of a strategic initiative to expand the School’s capacity to address the transformative impacts of emerging technologies on architecture and the built environment.

We welcome applicants whose work explores the integration of computation and design thinking across scales—from material systems and construction methods to urban systems and adaptive environments.


Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate design studios, as well as seminars or technical courses related to computational design, fabrication, robotics, or AI.

  • Conduct original research and creative practice that contributes to the advancement of digital design and technology in architecture.

  • Engage the new computation and fabrication facilities in the Ramos Collaboratory building set to open in Spring 6.

  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration across the university (e.g., with engineering, computer science, or art/design departments).

  • Contribute to curriculum development and the school’s evolving digital and fabrication facilities.

  • Participate in academic advising, service, and governance within the school and university.

    UFSoA, celebrating its th anniversary in 5, is known for its rigorous and interdisciplinary design studio curriculum and culture, which includes numerous international opportunities and academic concentrations.

    The program has approximately undergraduate and Master’s and PhD students.

    There are three off-campus programs: CityLab-Orlando, which graduated the first class of Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) students in the US; CityLab-Jacksonville; and the Vicenza Institute of Architecture in Vicenza, Italy.

    International studies play an important role in the SoA curriculum with almost % of the student body participating in study abroad programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, and Asia.


    The full-time faculty of the School of Architecture produce research, creative works, and design scholarship through independent initiatives, centers, and institutes.

    The School of Architecture offers graduate concentrations and certificates in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Design, Public Interest Design (PID), Acoustics, Sustainable Architecture and Design, Themed Environments Integration (TEI), Healthcare Design Integration (HDI), Building Performance, and Architectural Design Pedagogy.


    SoA offers the following degree programs: Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Master of Architecture (NAAB Accredited), Master of Science in Architectural Studies, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture that includes interdisciplinary coursework in design, construction, and planning.

    UFSoA is one of five active, interdisciplinary units in the College of Design, Construction and Planning that contributes to solving built environment challenges in Florida, across the US, and the world.

    The College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP) is one of the few colleges in the nation that houses design, construction and planning under one college.

    With programs in architecture, construction management, interior design, landscape architecture and urban planning, historic preservation, and sustainability and the built environment, students are exposed to an interdisciplinary reflection of the world around them.

    UFSoA faculty collaborate in research and teaching with faculty in each of the college’s other units, and across the university, reflecting the college’s dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration.

    Expected Salary:
    Comensurate with education and experience Required Qualifications:

    Professional or post-professional graduate degree in architecture or related fields.

    Preferred:

    Professional license and/or Ph.D. is highly desirable, as is previous design studio teaching, peer-reviewed research (peer-reviewed publications, externally funded research, and other evidence of scholarly production), and/or professional experience.


    The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds.
