Join Smart Tech Contracting as an Automation SCADA Engineer u2013 Critical Infrastructure and play a pivotal role in designing and deploying high-availability SCADA solutions for hyperscale and colocation data centers worldwide.

You'll transform PLC data into intuitive dashboards and resilient systems that keep mission-critical facilities running 24/7.

Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States

JOB SUMMARY


As an Automation SCADA Engineer you will design, build, and commission highu2011availability SCADA solutions for critical infrastructure projects including large scale hyperscale and colocation datau2011center campuses (10u202FMWu202Fu2013u202F200u202FMW+).

Working under our Senior SCADA Engineer, you'll turn PLC tag maps into intuitive HMIs, historian records, and actionable dashboards that keep critical facilities online 24u202F×u202F7.





The Automation SCADA Engineer u2013 Critical Infrastructure will receive limited direction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new projects, tasks or assignments.

Will execute and assist team leadership on projects, tasks or assignments of complex scope.

Will work independently or under limited supervision.





This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.





ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS





SCADA Development (60%)


• Build Ignition Perspective / Vision projects, UDTs, and templates


• Develop Python/SQL scripts, transaction groups, and alarming strategies


• Implement redundant gateways, storeu2011andu2011forward, and MQTT data pipelines





Integration and Commissioning (20%)


• Generate tag maps and naming conventions; connect BACnet/IP, Modbusu202FTCP, OPCu202FUA, and MQTT devices


• Support Factoryu202FAcceptanceu202FTesting (FAT) and Siteu202FAcceptanceu202FTesting (SAT)


• Troubleshoot comms, security, and historian issues during Levelu202F4/5 Integratedu202FSystemsu202FTesting





Standards and Continuous Improvement (10%)


• Contribute to Ignition project standards and cybersecurity hardening checklists (ISA/IECu202F62443)


• Contribute to QC checklists and process improvements





Collaboration and Reporting (10%)


• Coordinate with PLC, networking, and commissioning teams


• Produce weekly progress reports, punchu2011list logs, and KPI dashboards





Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget


Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned


Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING)





• UI design for BAS / EPMS solutions


• UDT development and testing


• Systems integration using standard Protocols: OPCu202FUA, BACnet/IP, Modbusu202FTCP, MQTT (Sparkplugu202FB)


• Python scripting, transaction groups, and gateway redundancy


• Platform solution architecture including licensing, module selection and SMA support options


• Source control (Git), ticketing (Jira/Azureu202FDevOps), basic Linux/Windows server admin


• Soft Skills: Clear clientu2011facing communication, rapid decisionu2011making, and calm execution in scheduleu2011compressed environments.


• Knowledge of VLANs, LANs, VPNs and RSTP


• Knowledge of IoT and smart building solutions


• Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management


• Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail


• Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace


• Ability to follow company and site safety requirements


• Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation


• Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence


• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)


• Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact


• Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision


• Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines


• Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others


• Ability to achieve certification for NFPA70E and / or OSHA training as / if required

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS


• Up to 50%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states


• Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.


• Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.


• Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.

• Bachelors in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline

• 5+u202Fyears hands-on SCADA development experience in mission critical / industrial automation projects using the Ignition platform.
