As a Back-End Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and optimizing the core services that power our APA platform.

You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable APIs, data processing pipelines, and backend infrastructure that enable AI-powered agents and human users to work in harmony.

**Who you’ll report to:**

Director of Engineering, AI Agent Studio

**Location:**

Hybrid role with regular onsite workdays in our San Jose, CA office strongly preferred.

Other locations in the U.S will be considered.

**You will make an impact by being responsible for:**

+ Building robust REST APIs, services, and backend infrastructure to support business applications
+ Working cross-functionally with Front-End Engineers, Product Managers, QA, and Support teams to deliver end-to-end features
+ Writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code.

Participating in design and code reviews to uphold engineering excellence
+ Identifying bottlenecks and improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of existing systems
+ Recommending and adopt modern backend technologies, frameworks, and processes to improve development speed and maintainability
+ Sharing best practices and support junior developers through guidance and reviews

**You will be a great fit if you have:**

+ 4+ years of experience in back-end development
+ Proficient in Java and one or more of the other server-side languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, or similar)
+ Strong knowledge of RESTful API design, microservices architecture
+ Strong experience with Spring framework, including REST APIs, security, data access, and configuration
+ Experience in relational and NoSQL database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, CDB, Elasticsearch)
+ Exposure to message brokers like Kafka or ActiveMQ.
+ Understanding of the client-server model, authentication, and authorization mechanisms
+ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP)
+ Experience with automation tools, observability stacks, or security best practices a plus

+ System Architecture & Scalability – Expertise in designing and building robust, scalable backend systems and microservices that support enterprise-grade APA workloads
+ API Design & Integration – Proficient in building clean, secure, and high-performance APIs that power seamless integration between AI agents, automation, and human workflows
+ Performance & Reliability Engineering – Skilled in identifying system bottlenecks, tuning performance, and ensuring backend services are observable, resilient, and production-ready
+ Security & Data Integrity – Deep understanding of secure coding practices, authentication protocols, and data governance in cloud and enterprise environments
+ Collaboration & Engineering Leadership – Strong communicator and mentor who contributes to a culture of shared ownership, continuous improvement, and technical excellence across teams

The base salary range for this position is $155,000 - $180,000 a year.

The base salary ultimately offered is determined through a review of education, industry experience, training, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant in alignment with market data and other factors.

This position is also eligible for a discretionary bonus, equity and a full range of medical and other benefits.
