Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

 The PBIS Coordinator is responsible for helping staff establish a safe, positive, and respectful school culture in which students are supported and are recognized for excellence.

The school’s PBIS Coordinator will work in a highly visible leadership capacity to maintain a supportive, productive, and enriching school culture.

The PBIS Coordinator will play an instrumental role in establishing and reinforcing high expectations for an actively engaging learning environment.

The position's role will maintain consistent and constructive communication with teachers, administrators, students, and student families in an effort to ensure that school culture norms are effectively defined and reinforced.

The PBIS Coordinator will support teachers in their development of creating a culture of learning and an environment of respect and rapport.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with teams to support teachers in the development of classroom management skills

  • Responsible for coordinating and supporting student attendance, behavior, and crisis-intervention plans to achieve site identified goals

  • Serving as a behavior and engagement coach for teachers

  • Facilitating faculty and staff professional development related to school culture, restorative practices, student engagement, consistent implementation of PBIS, and social-emotional support for students

  • Using knowledge of students and families and their diverse needs to ensure equitable healthy and effective responses to student needs

  • Supporting faculty and parents in creating intervention plans and individual behavioral contracts and helping to monitor student progress with those plans

  • Assisting with the coordination of MTSS, STAT meetings, as well as grade level or department student, themed meetings

  • Coordinating student recognition and other accolades

  • Providing continuous and ongoing structures and supports that empowers students to grow and ensure their needs are met

  • Liaising with families

  • Educating students, staff, and families regarding the student code of conduct guidelines, and holding all constituents accountable for adhering to the guidelines

  • Acting as an active member of the school's building leadership team

  • Seeking to study, review, and share related research materials and documents to increase understanding around the classroom environment

  • Setting measurable goals for the upcoming academic year and plan ways to make them a part of school culture

  • Proactively construct a positive student culture and mitigate disciplinary infractions before they occur

  • Analyzing data for needs, and evaluating the issues around student engagement, classroom management, classroom procedures, and other identified areas

  • Qualifications

    DESIRED EXPERIENCE 

    Required 

  • High School Diploma/GED plus two year degree or higher, 60 credits toward a degree, or the passing of the ParaPro Assessment 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years successful elementary classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of “at risk” and/or “behaviorally challenged” students was an important responsibility for the position.

  • Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.

  • Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function –based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).

  • Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students.

  • Expert knowledge in research based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively Exceptional knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction

  • Demonstrate ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction

  • Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality

  • Knowledge of research related to positive behavioral interventions and supports at all three tiers: universal, secondary and tertiary.

  • Experience planning and conducting professional development / training.

  • Demonstrated leadership and project organizational skills (planning, implementing, evaluation).

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various groups and gain consensus related to project implementation and other problem solving.

  • Experience in data-based decision making.

  • Ability to document student behavior and escalate based on Student code of conduct.

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff)

  • CPI Certified within 6 months of hire

  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Highly Preferred 

  • Experience working in historically educationally underserved communities and communities of color

    COMPENSATION

    Salary: $33,660+ 

    *Commensurate based on experience.
