The Department of Internal Medicine at the Dell Medical School is looking for a Biostatistician I.

As part of the Biomedical Data Science Hub of the Dell Medical School, the position supports quantitative and methodological aspects of the knowledge creationandtranslationmissionsof the Department of Internal Medicine.Inahighlycollaborativemode, the individual will interact with Dell investigators on research projects.

Purpose

In this role, the Biostatistician will collaborate closely with a PhD-level statistician and senior research leaders to co-develop a new statistical consulting service that supports faculty research within the Department of Internal Medicine.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the foundational design and implementation of a program that will enhance the department’s research productivity and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Co-development of a new statistical consulting service including the shaping of workflows, service models, and best practices; developing tools and resources such as intake forms and documentation; participating in consultations on study design, data analysis, and interpretation, analysis of preliminary results and study design for grant proposals; and contributing to the ongoing evaluation and refinement of the service based on faculty feedback and performance metrics.

  • DataAnalysisandReporting:Inconsultationwithfacultyorseniorstaff, analyze and interpret data including selection and application of statistical methods.

    Prepare and present reports of findings including graphical displays.

    Educate collaborators on statistical methods.

    Collaborate on the development of reports or manuscripts for peer- review,includingbutnotlimitedtoscholarlyjournals.Additionalduties may include review of statistical components of protocols for scientific or IRB review and/or statistical analysis plans.

  • As requested and appropriate, may conduct specialized research projects,withlatitudeforcreativityindesignandimplementationofsuch projects commensurate with experience.

    Determine project requirements and desired results and procedures to attain such results.

    Report resultsinin-housereportsor publications, and/or journalarticles as appropriate.

    If less than 10% time, balance to be spent on Functions 1 and 2.

  • Required Qualifications

    Master’s degree in Statistics or Biostatistics or very closely related field, with majorcourseworkinstatistics.Thoroughknowledgeandabilitytouseatleast twocommonstatisticalsoftwarepackagessuchasSAS,Stata,R,andSPSS.

    Ability to perform descriptive data analysis; to perform statistical modeling for univariate, clustered, longitudinal or time-to-event data; and to execute specialized analyses, perhaps under the direction of a PhD statistician.

    Excellent communication and collaborative skills, both oral and written.

    Interestinlearningaboutdiverseareasofbiomedical,clinical,andpopulation health sciences.

    Professional demeanor.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Practical understanding of data privacy practices and laws to ensure privacy, confidentiality,security,andofIRB/Institutionalapprovalprocesses.

    Familiarity with github for using existing and documenting new code development.

    Understanding of rigor and reproducibility and its implementation in results APhDin afieldrelatedtobiomedical,clinicalorpopulationresearchcanbeusefuland desirable.

    Salary Range

    $65,000+ depending on qualifications
