This is a full-time remote position.

Employees may work from anywhere within the contiguous 48 states of the United States.

Travel is up to 20%.

Travel expenses for business needs will be covered by BNSF.

The BNSF Tech Internship Program is designed for current college students eager to launch their careers in technology and innovation within the freight rail industry.

This internship program offers a deep dive into BNSF Railway’s operations, culture, and technology organization.

Training will start with a two-day in person orientation at our Corporate Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, offering a company overview and networking opportunities with leaders.

This will be followed by support on ongoing projects and practical training with the department.

After orientation, you will gain insights into the railroad industry, BNSF’s strategic vision and how bnsf | tech is transforming the future of rail freight.

During this time, tech interns will engage in hands-on coding challenges and collaborative problem solving.

Employees are assigned to teams where they contribute to impactful projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, reliability and innovation across the BNSF network.

Interns will gain formal training and hands-on experience in a fast-paced innovative environment while receiving support from managers and mentors along the way.

Basic Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related degree program from an accredited university.

  • Have and will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience, EXCLUDING internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing undergraduate and/or graduate degree.

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate with stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts and to adapt to new technologies quickly.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in technology, software engineering, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, Spring Boot
