Braille Instructional Assistant



Job description

Salary: $975 / Week

Under the supervision of the program instructor(s) and/or the program administrator, the Braille Instructional Assistant will support instructional activities by transcribing materials into Braille and provided tutoring to visually impaired students.

The Braille Instructional Assistant will enable students to develop competencies and skills to function in a successful and positive manner.



Minimum Requirements:


+ Certification as a Literary Braille Transcriber or Proofreader is required per state/contract

+ Minimum six months of experience performing basic Braille transcription; OR satisfactory completion of a course in braille transcription from the National Federation of the Blind preferred

+ Must be able use computer notation and other electronic equipment used by the blind and visually impaired

+ Must have knowledge and skill related to embossing tools, media, and understand the concepts to be presented when preparing tactile materials

+ Must be flexible, cooperative, and be able to maintain HIPPA

+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

+ Current CPR if applicable

+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

+ Must be at least 18 years of age
