Must-Haves
Relevant experience in bridge, roadway, or construction inspection (varies by level: Entry, Intermediate, or Senior).
Certifications such as ACI Concrete Technician, ALDOT Certification, Asphalt Roadway Technician, PTI, ASBI, CWI, or NICET (depending on level and assignment).
Ability to perform field inspections, materials testing, and fabrication oversight in line with ALDOT’s Construction Quality Management Plan (CQMP).
Willingness to work in the field, including outdoor environments, variable weather, night shifts, and weekends.
Strong documentation and reporting skills.
Overview
We are recruiting on purpose Bridge Inspectors (Levels I – Senior) to join the Owner’s Verification (OV) team on a once-in-a-generation infrastructure project in Mobile County, AL.
This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with advanced bridge construction techniques including cable-stayed structures, deep foundations, bonded post-tensioning, and large-scale urban MOT.
Positions are available at multiple levels, with placement based on experience, certifications, and professional interests.
Key Responsibilities
Field Inspection & Oversight
Verify construction compliance with RFC documents and ALDOT’s CQMP.
Review inspection and testing results performed by the Independent Quality Firm (IQF).
Perform or witness field tests on concrete, asphalt, soils, and aggregates.
Submit detailed daily reports in SYNCHRO and other ALDOT systems.
Track NCRs, RFIs, material receipts, and corrective actions.
Fabrication & Casting Yard Oversight
Inspect casting yards and fabrication shops for precast girders, deck panels, piles, and steel bridge components.
Verify compliance with shop drawings, post-tensioning, grouting specs, and material traceability.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate inspection records and audit readiness.
Assist with verification testing, FHWA reports, and compliance documentation.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Work with senior staff, engineers, ALDOT, and the IQF to uphold OV standards.
Mentor junior inspectors at the senior level.
Position Levels & Qualifications
Level I (Entry)
HS diploma/GED.
0–2 years’ experience in construction inspection or materials testing.
Certifications: ACI Concrete Technician, ALDOT Certification, Asphalt Roadway Tech, Work Zone Safety.
Level II (Intermediate)
3–5 years’ bridge/roadway inspection experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering preferred.
Certifications may include ACI/ALDOT Concrete, PTI I & II, ASBI Grouting, Asphalt Tech, Radiological Safety, CWI, or QCI (field/fabrication/casting yard).
Senior Level (Advanced)
8+ years’ bridge inspection or fabrication oversight.
Strong expertise in complex bridge systems, QA/QC, and advanced construction methods.
PE license or NICET III preferred.
Experience with post-tensioning, grouting, or segmental bridges highly valued.
