WGNO/WNOL (ABC26/CW) is seeking a Broadcast Maintenance Engineer.
The Broadcast Engineer operates, maintains, updates and repairs hardware and systems used for broadcasting and business operations.
We are looking for a responsible, intelligent, self-starter, ideally someone with technical experience in the broadcast industry.
This position reports to the station’s Chief Engineer.
Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Install, maintain, configure, and update all broadcast and information technology equipment and cabling in the facility.
+ Help implement new technologies and technical infrastructure for the facility.
+ Basic in-house IT support including participating in managing the station helpdesk for these departments: News, Operations, Sales, Traffic, Editors, Photographers, MMJs, Building Maintenance
+ Understand and assist in compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal laws
+ Participate in managing and maintaining all broadcast and technology related equipment within a News focused operation.
+ Participate in building maintenance tasks as needed.
+ Assist in equipment evaluation and selection.
+ Work closely with management and co-workers to ensure company objectives are met.
+ Participate in developing and maintaining SOPs and system documentation.
+ Execute plans and tasks in a timely manner.
+ Provide project updates to the department manager and broadcast and IT teams
+ Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Skills:
+ Two (2) years of previous broadcast engineering experience preferred
+ The ability to terminate broadcast and IT related cables is required
+ Experience with Broadcast automation systems, routers, video storage devices, SAN storage, satellite ground stations, and RF preferred
+ Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
+ Be able to contribute as an individual and work with other members of a team.
+ Knowledge of satellite, microwave and fiber transmission, bonded cellular technologies is a plus
+ Provide Desktop support
+ Working knowledge of LAN/WAN/VPN networking, Video over IP technologies
+ Must be able to follow technical drawings/documentation
+ OBS and Digital Streaming experience is a plus.
+ Ability to work extended hours occasionally as needed (may include overnight and weekends)
+ Extreme weather events (i.e., Hurricanes) require the Engineering team to be on-site for the duration of the event.
+ Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
+ ‘Can Do’ attitude, desire to learn new skills consistent with good engineering/IT practices
+ Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Broadcast Maintenance Engineer must be able to stand, sit, reach, climb, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
In addition, the Broadcast Engineer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Repetitive movements are required.
Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
