MW Talent is hiring on behalf of a leading chemical manufacturing company for a Building Envelope & Code Compliance Engineer.
This is a remote role with 50% travel.
Candidates from any U.S. state are welcome, with a preference for those based in Georgia who can visit headquarters as needed.
We're looking for a guru in building codes and compliance — someone who can guide development teams, ensure new products and assemblies meet the right standards, and serve as the go-to authority on regulatory requirements for both internal teams and external reporting.
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for building envelope systems, including Weather Resistive Barriers (WRB), Air Barriers, and Fire-Rated Assemblies.
Interpret and apply U.S. building codes and international standards, ensuring compliance across product development and manufacturing.
Provide guidance to development teams to design and test products that meet or exceed code requirements.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with third-party labs (UL, Intertek, ICC-NTA).
Develop collaborative relationships with code-governing organizations (ICC, ASTM, CalFire, TUV, British Standards Institute, etc.).
Participate in or contribute to standards-writing committees (e.g., ASTM E-05, ICC committees).
Navigate the listing process from concept through ESR/ESL approvals with ICC and other certification bodies.
Stay current on evolving codes, standards, and regulations in the U.S. and internationally (Australia, New Zealand, UK).
Education:
B.S. degree required (Engineering, Architecture, or related field).
M.S. degree strongly preferred.
For earlier-career candidates, a degree from a recognized program (e.g., University of Maryland – Fire Protection Engineering) is highly valued.
Experience:
Minimum 5+ years of experience in building code compliance, building envelope systems, or related fields with a degree.
Alternatively, 10+ years of experience with proven participation in at least one standards-writing committee (ASTM, ICC, etc.).
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of building codes: IBC, IRC, IECC, IgCC.
In-depth knowledge of testing standards:
WRB, air barrier & moisture: ASTM E96, ASTM E331, ASTM E2178/2357, ASTM D1970/D226/D779.
Fire testing: ASTM E119, ASTM E2768.
Material-specific codes: AC310, AC38/AC148, NFPA 285.
Thermal & moisture codes: ASHRAE 90.1/90.2, ASHRAE 160, ISO 6946, ISO 10211.
Experience working directly with code organizations (ICC, ASTM, CalFire, TUV, BSI).
Track record of contributing to standards-writing committees.
Experience with the ICC listing process and achieving ESR/ESL approvals.
Background in engineering or architecture strongly preferred (no specific license required).
Excellent communication skills — able to "translate” technical codes for engineers, managers, and regulators.
