This Building Inspector position is a great opportunity for a professional who's looking to provide consumer protection and public safety for all Idahoans.
This position will service the Twin Falls and surrounding area.
The anticipated work schedule is 40 hours per week, with some occasional overtime required.
Example of Duties:
+ Interpret building diagrams, plans, and specifications.
+ Performing construction inspections on-site and in prefabricated structures factories, to determine compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and laws.
+ Performing Industrial Safety inspections in schools and state buildings
+ Providing technical advice and assistance in best practices and corrective actions
+ Implementation of safety codes, regulations, and laws
+ Conducting on-site inspections, investigating complaints, and seeking compliance with regulations and safety standards
+ Assembling and preparing background information and documentation regarding noncompliance activities, code violations, safety reviews, and licensure discrepancies
+ Providing technical expertise to building officials, building representatives, contractors, and stakeholders
+ Assisting management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testifying in court or in administrative hearings.
Physical Activities of this Position
+ Walking throughout the day; Driving a state vehicle throughout the day
+ Crawling in and out of confined spaces, including attics and crawl spaces
+ Climbing series of stairs in multi-story buildings
+ Climbing ladders up to 14 feet high
+ Moving building material weighing up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
+ Analyzing data for the purpose of making recommendations
+ Operating a personal computer
+ Analyzing data and preparing written reports
Valid driver's license
Minimum Qualification Specialties:
Experience:
+ Interpreting building diagrams, plans, and specifications
+ Performing construction inspections to determine compliance with the construction codes adopted by the State of Idaho.
+ Interpreting building diagrams, plans, and specifications, including, but not limited to structural, architectural (accessibility, not ADA), mechanical, plumbing, electrical and energy plans and specifications.
+ Inspecting facilities for compliance with one or more of the following codes (with amendments) or standards: International Building Code, International Existing Building Code, International Residential Code, International Energy Code, ICC A117.1 Accessibility Code, or the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Safety Standards.
+ Recognizing unsafe facilities and formulating corrective actions.
Preferred Qualifications
Construction Experience:
+ Knowledge of Building construction terminology and processes
+ Knowledge of HUD Manufactured Home or IRC/IBC prefabricated structures factory construction and processes
+ Knowledge of Industrial Safety inspections
+ Experience in performing construction plan review, project management or experience with designing building plans.
Building Certifications:
Although not required at the time of hire to qualify for this position, having any of these certifications in accordance with Idaho Code 39-4108 may improve your standing as an applicant:
ICC (International Code Council)
Certification as a Residential Building Inspector
Certification as a Commercial Building Inspector
Certification as a Building Plans Examiner (Not applicable to within 6 months of hire)
State inspectors, including state safety advisors, shall hold a valid certification as a building inspector issued by the International Code Council (ICC), except that a building inspector with a valid ICC residential building inspector certification may only inspect structures regulated by the International Residential Code (IRC).
An inspector may be hired without a valid ICC residential building inspector certification but must obtain such certification within a period of up to six (6) months after hire and must be under the supervision of an ICC-certified building inspector or building plans examiner until such certification is obtained.
