Priority Energy is seeking a motivated Energy Diagnostics Technician (HERS Rater / Energy Auditor) to join our Building Performance team.

This role combines energy efficiency testing, duct leakage diagnostics, and Aeroseal computerized duct sealing to improve comfort, air quality, and energy savings for Chicagoland homeowners.

What You’ll Do:


  • Perform blower‑door & duct‑leakage tests—pre- and post-sealing—strictly following IECC/RESNET/ANSI standards.
  • Execute Aeroseal computerized duct sealing, measuring and reporting comfort and efficiency gains.
  • Conduct HERS inspections/ratings, input data into software, generate thorough compliance reports.
  • Evaluate HVAC balance, combustion safety, indoor air quality, and envelope performance.
  • Deliver clear, detailed reports—using IR cameras, smoke pencils, etc.—then communicate results and recommendations with homeowners, builders, and officials.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and responsibly care for all equipment.
  • Schedule:
    • 8 hour shift
    • Monday to Friday

Requirements


Do You Have:


  • Active RESNET HERS Rater and/or BPI Building Analyst certifications (or are pursuing them).
  • Aeroseal training and/or field experience.
  • Expertise in blower‑door/duct testing and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong building science background—HVAC systems, air leakage, IAQ.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with an eye for clarity and detail.
  • A valid driver's license and readiness to travel home to home throughout Chicagoland.

Education & Experience:


  • High school diploma minimum; technical degree or trade school preferred.
  • 1–3 years in energy diagnostics, HERS, HVAC, or duct sealing.
  • Familiarity with local and state building (IECC) codes, efficiency programs, or utility rebates (e.g., ComEd, Nicor).
  • Experience:
    • Energy Code Compliance Inspections: 1 year (Required)
    • Understanding of building science principles and application
    • Knowledge of combustion safety testing practices
    • Knowledge of diagnostic tools used in the performance of weatherization audits (blower doors, manometers, fan flow meters, etc.)
    • Able to perform basic mathematical computations.
    • Able to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information is essential for making informed decisions.
    • Able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery like copiers and computer printers.
