Department Profile:
Mississippi State University Police Department is charged with providing for the safety of all the students, faculty, staff, and guests who attend class, work, live, and visit our campus, and with the security of university buildings and property.
Mississippi State University police officers are always working and available to assist you.
The department provides a comprehensive array of law enforcement services through a dedicated staff of more than 35 sworn, state commissioned police officers and 16 full-time support personnel.
All MSU Police officers are certified by the Mississippi Peace Officers Minimum Standards Commission and have the same authorities and must meet the same expectations as law enforcement officers in any community.

College Campus Security/ Law Enforcement
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.
Performs foot and vehicle patrols of campus areas to monitor behavior, buildings, and property and communicates necessary campus safety information to the University Police Department.
2.
Physically secure buildings as scheduled.
3.
Opening and securing rooms and buildings at the request of authorized individuals.
4.
Providing safety escorts as needed.
5.
Patrols campus buildings and property to ensure the security of the facilities/areas.
6.
Escort maintenance personnel to assigned areas for repairs after hours.
7.
Maintain radio communications with other safety personnel and officers on campus.
8.
Responds to activation of alarm systems including campus-wide electronic sensor alarm alerts.
9.
Write and submit incident reports to assigned supervisor or law enforcement officer.
10.
Other duties may include training additional security officers and assisting with crowd control and/or directing traffic during special events.
11.
Ability to work in stressful situations and deescalate potential violent activity.
12.
Perform other assigned work-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of previous work experience.
Focus: Security related acumen.
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
Preferred Qualifications:

Education beyond the minimum.
2.
Previous work experience.
3.
Certification in CPR/ First Aid.
4.
Good physical condition.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1.
Ability to work within a team and foster professionalism in job assignments.
2.
Ability to work in stressful situations and deescalate potential violent activity.
3.
Demonstrate vigilance for safety and deterrence of criminal activity.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1.
Must be available to work rotating shifts (including nights and weekends), outdoors, and in a variety of assignments including foot, vehicle, and bicycle patrol.
2.
Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion.
Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc.
3.
Frequent-Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control.
4.
Job requires sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, walking, reaching, climbing, talking, hearing and handling objects.

Ability to see information in print and/or electronically, ability to distinguish colors.
