Stanford Medicine is initiating a search for the position of Chair and Professor of the Department of Urology in the University Medical Line or University Tenure Line.

Stanford Medicine incorporates the School of Medicine as well as two internationally renowned hospitals: Stanford Health Care and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.
It is situated on Stanford campus, which also includes the Schools of Humanities and Sciences, Engineering, Law, Business, Education and the Doerr School of Sustainability.
Stanford Medicine’s Department of Urology delivers comprehensive, patient-centered care across all major urologic subspecialties, including Urologic Oncology, Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, Pediatric Urology, and Endourology.
The department serves patients across more than 13 locations throughout the Bay Area - including the East Bay, South Bay, and North Bay - ensuring broad access to its expertise.
Backed by leading surgical and clinical capability, the department operates within a multidisciplinary framework, with expert surgeons skilled in open, endoscopic, and minimally invasive techniques to provide patients with the most advanced care available.
The Department of Urology at Stanford Medicine is equally distinguished by innovative and collaborative research programs across basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences.
Faculty-led labs and research centers drive advances in precision diagnostics, AI-enabled imaging, novel diagnostic technologies, male reproductive health, regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, and cancer biology.
Collaborating with physicians and scientists across Stanford and beyond, these teams are advancing urologic imaging and diagnostic techniques, deepening understanding of cancer biology, and developing new treatment algorithms.
With a robust and rapidly expanding clinical trials program, Stanford Urology provides patients access to the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options and continues to extend its impact across the full spectrum of urologic diseases.
Education is a central pillar of the Department of Urology at Stanford Medicine, where medical students, residents, and fellows train in diverse clinical settings and gain exposure to the full spectrum of urologic care.
The residency program has expanded to four residents per year and is projected to include 30 trainees by 2030.
Residents consistently earn placements in top fellowship programs across the country, and many advance to leadership roles in academic urology nationwide.
The department also offers five fellowship programs that provide advanced clinical and research training in the subspecialties of Endourology, Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, Pediatric Urology, and Urologic Oncology - all accredited by the ACGME or boarded by their respective societies.
In addition, visiting sub-internships give medical students a structured four-week experience that introduces them to urology and its subspecialties through participation in clinics, ward care, and the operating room.
Together, these programs represent a robust and expanding educational enterprise that continues to shape the future of urologic medicine.

Candidates for Chair of the Department of Urology should combine proven leadership skills with an outstanding record of academic accomplishment; a dedication to excellence in the clinical, research and educational missions of the department; an understanding of the complexity of academic medicine; and the creative vision to help shape the future of a dynamic department.
Candidates should have MD or MD/PhD degrees and must be board-certified.
The Chair will report to the Dean of Stanford Medicine and will work collaboratively with Chairs of other departments within Stanford Medicine, as well as leaders of the interdisciplinary institutes at Stanford and the leadership of Stanford Health Care, Tri-Valley and Partners; and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.
The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching.
The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
Faculty line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
The expected base pay range for this position is $1M to $1.140M.
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank.
It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
