Job description

A leading company in the electrical industry is seeking a Chief Estimator to build, lead, and expand its estimating function.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of electrical estimating, and a customer-focused mindset.

Working collaboratively, the new leader will strengthen bid accuracy and competitiveness by managing a growing estimating team, developing detailed proposals, and ensuring alignment with the company’s commitment to value and exceptional service while driving business growth.



Salary + Additional Benefits:

Responsibilities: 


  • Manage and administer department functions, including providing day-to-day direction and supervision of the Estimating group including building the team, recruitment and selection, and development of skills and abilities.
  • Assist Executives and Project Management in determining what types of projects to bid on, strategies, techniques, etc.
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to distribution.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Review contract and bid documents; review and understand scope for project turnover.
  • Attend walkthroughs, pre-bid and scope clarification meetings
  • Prepare scope letters and proposals.
  • Develop & maintain relationships with customers, General Contractors, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Perform design/build, conceptual and budget estimates.
  • Coordinate the efforts of junior and staff-level resources in performing take-offs, issuing bills of material to vendors and obtaining subcontractor quotes.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the executive management with recommendation for resolution.
  • Develop budget estimates by performing accurate quantity take offs using plans and specifications, or conceptual information.
  • Examine the plans and specifications to become familiar with the job and determine the presence of any special features and/or unique requirements.
  • Review job sites or plans, measure take-offs to establish quantities of materials needed.
  • Complete bids in a timely fashion and in sufficient quantity to attain profitability.
  • Review bid packages from estimators for final review before submitting to general contractor/client.
  • Review estimates from subordinates, make corrections, suggestions or approve as necessary.
  • Provide copies of plans, take-offs, and all pertinent estimating data, ensuring that drawings, specifications, labor hours/days and special requirements are clear and unambiguous.
  • Evaluate project scope changes and review and price field change orders as needed.
  • Review, interpret, and accurately estimate the scope of work as described in the project documents.
  • Develop RFQ/RFP documents for the solicitation of subcontractor proposal and vendor bids or quotations.
  • Provide value engineering ideas and cost savings.
  • Lead page turn exercises during internal kick off meetings.
  • Prepare general conditions and terms for estimate of general expenses and equipment costs for proposals.
  • Ensure flow of project information is maintained and documented.
  • Work and collaborate with Team Members throughout the company for specific project sector needs.
  • Maintain and update estimating database as needed to stay relevant to today’s electrical work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s in engineering or construction management preferred
  • Expert electrical and National Electrical Code (NEC) knowledge
  • At least 10 years of electrical estimating experience in commercial/industrial/high tech industry
  • Experience in all types of commercial and industrial projects. 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Expert experience in BlueBeam
  • Expert Accubid user
  • Trimble Viewpoint experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Organizational, supervisory, and decision-making/problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with a can-do attitude willing to work with multiple people on multiple projects.
  • Able to communicate with all levels of the organization and clients when needed.
  • Time management to ensure estimates and tasks are completed by the deadlines and bid dates.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and change priorities as necessary.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Willing and able to mentor and train others.
